Important Dates in Term 4
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. Greetings to you all.
This week is Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Maori Language Week). We have a number of language-based daily quizzes, activities and games to enrich our use of te reo. If you are keen to enrich your own use, you may like to try Te Kupu o te Rā, which offers a word or phrase each day. The NZ History website also provides a list of 100 Māori words every New Zealander should know and 365 useful words and phrases in te reo Māori.
A warm welcome to Aadvik, who started in Room 2 this week.
We were so lucky with the weather last week for our various house week celebrations (see picture above of Snell house in the school garden) and in particular the teddy bears’ picnic on Friday. It was such a lovely picnic and time was taken to decide on the names of our house bears. Each of our house captains, ably supported by their Year 6 and 7 house reps, did an awesome job leading the activities on their given days.
It was a sombre start to the day on Friday as we recognised the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The flag will be flown at half mast until her funeral service next Monday. Please note that we now have a public holiday on Monday 26th September, so the school will be closed on that day.
I am sure many of us are pleased the traffic light system has ceased overnight. Masks will now be a matter of choice in the classrooms. Please supply your own masks from now on; however, we will continue to have hand sanitiser readily available. Harakeke team has some great learning to share at the end of the term so we will be inviting parents to come in and see that. Face-to-face meetings with teachers can take place and we will be moving to normal school assemblies from the start of next term.
For those who do get COVID, you are still required to isolate for 7 days but family members do not need to isolate if they are well and have a daily negative RAT result. If unwell, students should remain at home.
I am very much looking forward to the New Zealand Principals Federation conference in Christchurch this week – please note I will be out of school on Wed, Thurs and Fri. As Catherine Palmer has had to fly to England unexpectedly, Erynn Riesterer (erynn@kts.school.nz) or Rachel Ogivly (rachel@kts.school.nz ) will be your points of contact if required. – Alison
