School of Excellence Recognition
Pattie has been officially recognized as a School of Excellence! This designation is based on overall student achievement, achievement by sub group, achievement in health and wellness, and staff and stakeholder satisfaction for the 2018-2019 School Year.
Early Dismissals
Picking your student up right before our dismissal process can cause confusion, and ultimately affect the safety of your child. We need to ensure that all children get home properly and safely; therefore, we are no longer allowing parents to pick up their child after 2:30 pm. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Teacher of the Year Nominees
Pattie is proud to have two nominees for Prince William County's Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Kurylo and Mrs. Cofer are both leaders within the school who consistently model the core components of Pattie's Mission: Passion, Positivity, Pride, and Performance. They are both the backbone of this school and its culture, and both are deserving of this recognition. The winner will be announced at a later date and will then be eligible for the Washington Post Teacher of the Year for the Washington Region.
Veteran's Day Recognition
We want to send a special thank you to all the Veterans and Active Duty Service Men and Women who came to Pattie for an honorary breakfast, and to volunteer in classrooms. We believe that students should understand the true meaning behind Veteran's Day and participate in honoring and showing appreciation for all who have, and continue to serve.
Wreaths Across America
As a result of your generosity, we were able to sponsor 51 wreaths for fallen Veterans across the country. Pattie families are invited to participate in the Wreaths Across America Ceremony at Quantico National Cemetary on December 14th, beginning at 10:00am.
Level Up Boards
Pattie's Level Up Boards, found in every classroom, are designed to mimic the levels of a video game. More importantly, students only have to focus on one, personal goal at a time - determined either on their own, or by their teacher. As they improve upon that personal goal, they earn paw cards. As a certain number of paw cards are earned, students then "level up". Once a student reaches the Blue, Yellow, or Black level, they earn a dog tag, and are recognized on the morning announcements. If they reach the Legend (Black) level, they will participate in a staff/student kickball game at the end of the year.
Kindergarten Registration for 2020/2021 School Year
Kindergarten Registration dates for the 2020/2021 school year will be Thursday, April 2nd and Thursday, April 16th. Children must turn 5 years old by September 30th, 2020 in order to enroll in Kindergarten in the state of Virginia.
Pattie's Snack Pantry
Our Snack Pantry, developed by two of Pattie's students, is in need of donations. We are asking for donations of healthy snacks through the Amazon wishlist, included on the flyer above. These donations are provided to children who come to school without snacks. Donations also prevent teachers from buying snacks themselves. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
Reading Mentors
Pattie Reading Mentors serve as a mentor for students in need of positive literacy experiences with an adult. Mentors will be paired with a student with whom they will read, and form a relationship, with over time. Please follow the link for more information and how to sign up! You can also visit Pattie's Website, under "About Us" for more information. https://signup.com/go/gKDnYYn
Pattie Robotics
Pattie's First Lego League Robotics team recently participated in its first competition. After less than two months of practice, they finished 2nd among 36 teams in the teamwork competition and were one of 8 teams to qualify for the state tournament in December! A special thank you to Ms. Hall and Ms. Martin for leading and coaching the team!
Panther Strides
Panther Strides is an after-school club for girls in grades 3-5, led by Mrs. Cofer, Ms. Mumford, and Mrs. Jenkins. The girls work on social skills, teamwork, and building self-esteem. They also train for a 5K race to encourage a healthy lifestyle. On Saturday, November 16th, Panther Strides completed the 5K race by pushing themselves and encouraging each other. Here they are after being highlighted on the morning announcements!
Have you ever asked your student what they did in school today only to get a short, uninformative response? Twitter allows a unique opportunity for families to have a daily view into the awesome learning experiences happening throughout the day at Pattie. Twitter is not only an awesome way for us to communicate the variety of learning opportunities that students participate in regularly, but it can also give parents a starting point for engaging their student in conversations about what they're doing in school.
