October is #ThankaPrincipal Month, and the FCHS Student Council presented Principal Huotari with special handwritten sentiments along with candy jars (like Swedish Fish/"You're o-FISH-ally the best!") for his office meetings. Because we know how much he enjoys lifting weights, a special "YOU LIFT US UP" weightlifting belt was also presented and signed by Reps as a token of our appreciation! Thanks for all you do for the Flashes, Mr. Huotari!
October is Thank a Principal month. So lets show our appreciation for our FCHS building principals. They work hard and long hours that many don't realize.
Send a simple note or email of appreciation to any of our principals.

Athletic Update
The varsity football team lost to Westfield last Friday. They will open sectional play at Jeffersonville on Oct. 26. (Thanks go out to Wayne Carter of Carter's FLASH Photography for the football pictures appearing in this weeks parent newsletter.)
The boys and girls cross country teams both finished 2nd in the Rushville Regional last Saturday. Bri Lawson finished 2nd, Sydney Welch 4th. Jada Reedus and Cami Farmer also finished in the top 10 for the girls. On the boys side, Jackson Andry finished 3rd. William Hackler and Justin Healey both finished in the top 10 as well. The teams will compete in the Shelbyville Semi-State this Saturday starting at 10:30 AM.
The varsity volleyball team lost a close match to Franklin in the Greenwood Sectional 3-1 on Tuesday.
The varsity girls soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Avon in the Brebeuf Regional. The game was tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation and after two overtime periods. They went to PK where we lost 6-5 after nine rounds.
We are very proud of all the teams that have competed in this Fall. We with the football team and the cross country teams Good Luck as they continue their seasons in the state tournament.

Notes from the Attendance Office: DID YOU KNOW??
Did you know??
*NEW!! You, the parent, must notify the Attendance Office of your students absence even if they are 18 years old. As long as your student still lives with you, you are the guardian/parent and are still responsible for reporting their absence.*
You can check Infinite Campus to see if the Attendance line received your message or doctor note. If a dr note was received, the absence will be marked "Medical Exempt". You will also be able to see if your student is marked out to leave early. Doctor appointments are unexcused until the student returns to school with a note from the doctor showing the student attended the appointment.
Absences and requests to leave school early must be reported by the guardian listed in Infinite Campus.
If you receive the automated call, the caller ID will show the main school line. Please DO NOT call back to this number...call Attendance at 803-5535. If you get the automated call, but someone other than the guardian already called in. This is why. It means your student is still marked absent unexcused. Please make sure you, the guardian, return the call to the attendance line at 803-5535
If you have questions about a recorded absence in Infinite Campus you can contact our attendance office or email Mrs. Bailey (courtney.bailey@ftcsc.org).
ATTENDANCE - 317-803-5535
If you are picking up your student early from school you must send in a note with your student (preferred method) or call the Attendance Office, leave a message with a specific time for pick up, and come in to the school to present your Drivers License Identification to the Receptionist.

News from the Clinic
EXCLUSION DATE FOR NON-COMPLIANT IMMUNIZATIONS FOR FCHS STUDENTS
The State of Indiana has published the new immunization requirements for the 2018-19 school year. Below you will find how the new requirements affect different grade levels.
· Hepatitis A will be required for grades K-4, 6, and 12. Requirements have been phased in the last few years, eventually to be required at all levels. Hepatitis A is a series of 2 shots given 6 months apart.
· A second dose of MCV4, as well as 2 doses of Hep A, are required for grade 12.
Please contact your student’s doctor now for an appointment. The Marion County Health Department’s phone is 317-221-5700, and offers appointments on some days of the week. In addition to private providers and the MCHD, other resources include Walgreen’s clinics or other pharmacies. Please confirm for your particular insurance coverage and for minimum age, if applicable.
· There are still over 300 seniors non-compliant with the required immunizations.
· The exclusion date is October 23, 2018. Students will be sent home for incomplete immunizations.
If you have any questions, contact the HS clinic at 317-803-5550 or 317-803-8304. Our HS clinic fax number is 317-803-5727.
