MISSION

The MSD of Decatur Township is Student Invested, Community Connected. We prioritize Student learning, Safety and Customer Service, fostering a support system for our families.

A Note from your Principal

Dear West Newton Families,

Thank you for your attendance at our parent – teacher – student conferences in October. We had over 98% participation and that is something to celebrate! As educators, the West Newton staff is fully invested in our students’ academic, emotional, and social well-being and we love being partners with our parents.

As the weather turns a bit colder in November we are still warming up to our learning and activities at West Newton. Our students have also been preparing for our Veterans Day Program on Nov. 9. This is always a respectful event for the students, staff, and community. Here are some upcoming events for parents to note:

· Oct. 26 – Nov. 2 = Round 3 of STAR testing ELA and Math

· Nov. 1 – 14 = Major Saver Cards fundraiser for DTEF

· Nov. 6 = PTO meeting at 6pm in the media center

· Nov. 9 at 8:30am = Veterans Day Program – all are invited to attend

· Nov. 14 = School Smiles will be at West Newton

· Nov. 14 = Mid-term Reports come home

· Nov. 16 = Popcorn Sale 50 cents per bag

· Nov. 19-23 = Thanksgiving Break

· Nov. 26 = School Reconvenes

· Sat., Dec. 1 = 9am-1pm Breakfast with Santa and Craft Fair!

I would like to encourage all of our parents to participate in West Newton’s wonderful PTO meeting on Nov. 6 and also bring your families to the Dec. 1 Breakfast with Santa and Craft Fair that is sponsored by our PTO. This is always an amazing community event and the kids have so much fun!

Thank you for sharing your children with the staff of West Newton. I always look forward to coming to school each day because of our students, staff, and families!

With Tiger Pride,

Susan D. Strube

ART TO REMEMBER: Orders can still be placed online at order.arttoremember.com / online order code is on the personalized order form. Merchandise will arrive prior to winter break.

A NOTE FROM THE NURSE

The days are getting chillier as fall continues to winter! It is VERY important that your children are dressing appropriately to prevent any health issues related to the cold! Please make sure they are coming to school with a jacket/coat as they will still continue to go outdoors for recess if weather permits. As the temperature continues to drop, please also make sure your child has appropriate head gear on such as stocking caps and/or scarfs (FYI-heat is released thru your head)! Also make sure they are wearing gloves during very low temperatures to help prevent frost bite! Remember, just because it’s not snowing does not mean the cold cannot do damage to your little ones!! As always, THANK YOU for helping to keep all our tiger cubs healthy and ready to learn! J
