Academy of the Arts at Bransom
January 29-February 2, 2018 (School Days 95-99)
A Note From Your Principal
Academy of the Arts Families,
We made it through a full five days of school this last week. It is really great to get back into the full swing of things and trust me it was a full week. It's great to say that we completed the mid-year M.A.P. (Measures of Academic Progress.) Teachers are working diligently to disaggregate the data from their class results. Among the information they will be able to glean includes your child's' progress from the fall assessment to the winter assessment, specific areas of need for your child, and how your child compares to students in the same grade across the nation who took the same assessment. Begin looking for your child's results. We believe that knowledge is powerful for you and your child.
During the coming week, our teachers will be delivering important lessons during each and every class period. Please make sure to have your child in class unless they are sick with a contagious illness. We sure miss our friends when they are not present.
In preparation for next week, go ahead and dust off your child's western boots, cowboy/girl hat, chaps, and all the other western attire they may have. (Do not send any weapons of any kind, please.) Monday of next week will be Western Day on the campus. Please start looking for more details on your child and his/her peers' square dancing performance during A.M.P. Camp on this Western Day. We enjoy celebrating our western heritage this time of the year. In fact I want to encourage you to check out the Ft. Worth Stock Show if you haven't already. We have a couple of students who have competed in animal showing and the like. It is great to participate in events and activities to remind and/or teach our younger generation about life beyond current reality.
I would like to pass along some information about a newly hired teacher in fourth grade. Courtney White, former Academy of the Arts' student teacher, graduated from Tarleton State University and is very excited about joining the Bobcat family. Also, we want to welcome Nora Isaac who will be a Special Education Collaborative teacher with several teachers on our campus. She is a graduate of Texas A&M, Corpus Christi. Along with us she teaches on the S.T.E.A.M. Academy at Stribling campus. I hope you will welcome these ladies. We anticipate great things from these ladies as the year continues.
In closing, let me encourage each of you to continue reading with your child each night. I know that every teacher requests that your child read for 20 or so minutes each night and that is incredibly important but YOU reading to your child is equally important. The relationship bond that is built, the calm it brings to the end of the day, and the academic benefits are endless. I encourage you to find a book of high interest for your child and possibly just beyond your child's reading level. These books will keep your child's engagement up while giving you an opportunity to build their vocabulary and story comprehension skills. Reading with your child builds memories that will last a lifetime AND begins a routine that could last for generations. It is well worth it so start today, start again today, or just continue the good work.
Until next time,
Mrs. Burchfield

Bransom Report Card from the State
Each year the state of Texas publishes a "State Report Card" for each public school. Though it is last year's report card, it can be interesting to read the reports over time. Here is a link for the 2016-2017 report for our school.
