1. Malaria is caused by blood parasites transmitted from person to person through the bites of infected mosquitoes

4. Malaria exists in 103 countries worldwide, affecting 3.3 billion people

5. In 2012 207 million clinical cases of malaria were recoreded

6. Pregnant women are extremely vulnerable to malaria

7. Malaria is not contagious

8. Malaria breeds mostly in warmer climates

9. In the US about 1,500 cases of Malaria are found every year

10. An infected person may start to feel the symptoms anywhere from a week to a month after they are bitten

What can Africa do to limit Malaria?

People could drain swamps to remove mosquito breeding, they can screen their windows, and avoid being outside during dawn and dusk.
