High School Science Assessment - Grade 9
Nevada’s Science assessment is based on life science standards and is given in grades 5, 8 and high school in order to meet federal testing requirements. Spanish Springs HS will be administering the on-line Science Assessment March 30 – April 16, 2021, in Biology classes. Participation is required of all 9th Grade students and any 10th Grade students in Biology. Ninth Grade Distance Learners will need to participate and will be contacted with a test day and time. For more information on the assessment go to http://www.doe.nv.gov/Assessments/Science/ or https://www.washoeschools.net/Page/10783 .

The new ACT Test make-up date is Tuesday, April 13, 8:00 am – 1:15 pm at school. This is a make-up for students who missed the February 23 test. The ACT with Writing is a graduation requirement. Students may bring an approved calculator and a snack to testing. Cellphones and electronic devices are not allowed in the testing room. Distance Learners need to participate in person. See the Career Center for more information.Civics Exam Windows Extended- Graduation Requirement
Important reminder – Seniors who have not yet taken their Civics Exam, which is mandatory in the state of Nevada for graduation, will have one more window of opportunity to do so. That window is open now until May 14.
Seniors will be able to participate in this exam Monday through Friday from 7am to 5pm daily. If you have questions about this exam, please contact your student’s Government teacher or Counselor.
AP Testing
AP testing will be occurring during the month of May. If your student is enrolled in an Advanced Placement course, they are required to take the Advanced Placement test as per school district policy. Students are encouraged to talk to their AP teachers regarding the format that their test will be given in and the testing date. Students are also encouraged to utilize College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools for other resources and study materials. The AP testing fee is $94 per test and is payable to SSHS via check or via the webstore. Contact the bookkeeper, Megan Svare, msvare@washoeschools.net with any questions regarding paying fees.

Washoe County School District has released the graduation schedules for all high schools. Spanish Springs High School graduation celebration is scheduled for Monday, June 21, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Additional information and details will be forth coming as it pertains to the venue/format.
A Note from the Student Relations Office (SRO)
Dress Code: Please remind students to be mindful of the dress code. Students violating dress code will receive detentions. Make sure you know the district dress code. The areas of concern include: skin showing above mid-thigh, stomach and chest area, and no undergarments showing. Make sure the content on the clothes are also school appropriate. If still unsure, please visit the district website or the electronic handbook for our school website (under quick links) or ask your Student relations office.
Due to an increase in tardies, we will begin tardy sweeps this week. A tardy sweep means that students are collected in the halls for being tardy and assigned lunch detention on that day. Failure to complete the consequence will result in more severe consequences. Please encourage your students to be on-time and attend all assigned consequences. We are grateful for your help.
Lunch Protocol: Per Spanish Springs High School safety rules, students are not permitted to “hang out” IN or AROUND the cars in parking lot. Students with “off campus” will also need to leave school without hanging out in the parking lot. We are a closed campus, students are not permitted to leave for lunch.
