AUSD Meal Service Through the Pandemic
Did you know we are offering meal service two different ways throughout this pandemic experience?
1) Curbside Service: We have offered curbside meal kit pickup during the week for families. Meals are bundled together into "kits" to reduce the number of trips families need to take to pick up meals for the week. Meal kits contain both breakfast and lunch meals. If a family visits during both meal pickup days they will receive a total of 10 meals for the week. What a great help to your grocery budget!
2) Counter Service: During campus attendance days both breakfast and lunch meals are available at no cost to all children enrolled at each school site. Meals are all built by adding different foods to a plate then passing the plate through a plexiglass cutout to students. Students have the chance to select different foods by telling the friendly CHild Nutrition Professional what they would like for the day.
All meals are available to children at no cost. Children not enrolled in an AUSD school are still eligible to pick up meals during curbside service. Meals are available to all children up to age 18.
To help us serve you better, we ask that you pre-order your meals for cubside service. This quick survey helps us be sure to have enough meals ready to pass out. You can fill out the survey by following this link: https://forms.gle/yXVhQJF1xm8SjSpp9

Ways We Are Well - Movement
Sami’s Circut
Who is Sami?
Sami Kader is a motivational speaker, children’s book author, and founder of Sami’s Circuit, an elementary school program that brings social-emotional learning to life.
Sami has received local and national media coverage for his work with hundreds of thousands of students all over California. His new video-based school program, “Sami’s Circuit On Demand,” has allowed his mission to expand nationwide, working seamlessly with in-class, distance learning, and homeschool models.
For the past 10 years, Sami’s humorous yet genuine approach has compelled children and adults to laugh while they learn. His high-energy delivery and enthusiasm ignite his audience, getting them up and moving, and leaving them with tools and mindsets they will implement into their daily lives.
What is Sami’s Circuit?
Sami’s Circuit On Demand is a series of weekly, 20-minute videos that combine positive messages with the power of movement. The program introduces the Circuit of Powers - powers that already exist within each child and can be accessed at any time once they understand and learn how to use them. Through Sami’s videos, students learn to use these powers in any situation - increasing resiliency, strengthening self-confidence, and setting achievable goals.
Students in the Auburn Union School District will access Sami's Circuit On Demand from home during their asynchronous learning on Wednesdays.
How Can Families Get Involved?
Sami’s goal is to help grow the seeds of positivity that parents have been planting for years. As a father of four, Sami knows how important it is for kids to have positive role models in their lives - and that begins at home! Sami’s Circuit Virtual Family Nights are a great time for families to bond while getting up off the couch and moving. Click on the button below to join our first Virtual Family Night, which takes place this Wednesday, January 13th at 6:00 PM!
Kids who participate will get a secret password at the end of the event. The school with the highest attendance on the next family night event gets to use the school background of our choice during the next event.
New Dietary Guidelines for Americans
The United States Department of Agriculture (the USDA) has released the newest version of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. This edition covers 2020 through 2025. This guideline us updated every five years. The theme for the 2020 update is “Make Every Bite Count. This updated guide focuses on what to include in your healthy daily diet. Remember, it’s not nutrition unless it’s eaten! The Dietary Guidelines for Americans covers all age groups from infants to older adults.
There are four overarching guidelines, which encourage Americans to “Make Every Bite Count” by:
Following a healthy dietary pattern at every life stage.
Customizing and enjoying nutrient-dense food and beverage choices to reflect personal preferences, cultural traditions, and budgetary considerations.
Focusing on meeting food group needs with nutrient-dense foods and beverages from five food groups – vegetables, fruits, grains, dairy and fortified soy alternatives, and proteins – and staying within calorie limits.
Limiting foods and beverages higher in added sugars, saturated fat, and sodium, and limiting alcoholic beverages.
