About Mexico



Mexico is a country between the U.S. and Central America, it's the fifth largest country in the Americas, and an estimated population of about 120 million. It's known for its Gulf of Mexico beaches and it's landscape of mountains, deserts and jungles, ancient ruins are scattered through out the country. Mexico is also well known for its wide range of spicy foods.

Foods they eat

When the Europeans arrived in Mexico in 1517, their diet consisted of of corn, beans, peppers, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, and herbs. You will find corn in almost every Mexican dish, usually in the form of a flat bread (tortilla). Mexican food typically has spices in it, like different chillies and jalapeños. Regularly eaten foods in Mexico are tacos, burritos, frijoles, nachos, enchadillas and guacamole (sauce made from avocado). Burritos and tacos are usually filled with mince with beans, salad, cheese and spices. These are some of the typical foods in Mexico.

Mexican celebrations

Some of the significant celebrations in Mexico are, nochebeuna (Christmas Eve) and navidad (Christmas), other celebrations are, three kings days on January 6. And day of the dead festival on October 30. Day of the dead is where they celebrate the dead people and remember them, they picnic near and decorate the graves of the dead. Foods they involve in these celebrations include; three kings sweet bread, tamales, atole, pan dulce and Empanadas. This is a meat filled turn over.
