OCCUE News and Notes
Crowdsourced Notes and Presentation Links
If you weren't able to attend OCCUE this past Saturday, or weren't able to catch a certain session, you can access descriptions, notes and presentation links for each session at this link here.
This is an ongoing collection of notes and links posted both on the OCCUE website schedule and through Twitter, so it is constantly being updated.
Below are some highlights, organized by the SAMR model. The amount of notes can be daunted, so we tried to make it easier for you. Remember that blue links are clickable.
S - Substitution
Come on - it's OCCUE. There was no talk of substitution here :).
A - Augmentation
Padlet and Kahoot
Padlet and Kahoot are wonderful tools to engage and have all of your students participating.
Classcraft
For those upper grades looking to further gamify their classroom behavior management, Classcraft is a wonderful step up from Class Dojo. Students are accountable not only for themselves, but for their teammates as well who can support and uplift one another.
Desmos and Chrome Extensions
Desmos is a fantastic graphing solution for algebraic equations. Check out these Chrome Extensions for ways to enhance and make your Chrome experience easier.
M - Modification
From Paper Notebooks to Online Portfolios
I enjoyed this presentation and these resources that takes journaling, morning work, and reflective questioning to put all in one easy to use online portfolio. Different add-ons help to create a resource that keeps students accountable, has you shuffling through less paper, and organizes as a great study tool, too.
Common Core and iPad Tech in Kinder
For those who teach the younger students, here are some resources of commonly used apps and how projects are used in the classroom.
Edpuzzle
Edpuzzle still remains one of my favorite tools to use YouTube videos as part of flipped learning.
R - Redefinition
Greenscreen Playground
Immerse your students into the concepts via a green screen. There are many iPad apps that can easily convert a green screen into a background image that your students can connect and interact with to showcase understanding.
I have three large fabric green screens should you need to borrow one to try out.
Robot Playground
From the Buzy Bee for Kindergarten to the Ozobot that follows the path you draw for it, the Robot Playground explores students learning coding language through play.
Breakout EDU
For those adults who have experienced escape rooms, Breakout EDU offers students a chance to integrate teamwork, creativity, logic, and problem solving in content based knowledge.
