What a great week to be a STALLION!
Our students did a great job last week with wearing their IDs and meeting expectations. STAAR is right around the corner. Help us help our Stallions by making sure that they are studying and reading at night and getting proper rest. Thanks for all that you do.
Reminder of the Spring changes:
1. Structured Lunches will continue – Teachers will escort their classes to the cafeteria each lunch period.
2. Lanyards and IDs – All students will be required to wear their ID around their neck at all times during the day. This starts on 2/19/2019. Students can buy a school ID at the attendance office before school for $3 if they have lost their free one. We do not sell school IDs during the instructional day.
3. Added Duties throughout the Building – Teachers/staff assigned to duty locations during each passing period. Teachers will be present in their pods/hallways pushing students to class and addressing behavior/dress code concerns. Teachers are in the hall to help with traffic flow.
4. Character Education Lessons – The counselors will start pushing into classrooms with character ed lessons and Mr. Bradley will also start doing these during lunch.
5. One Way Hallways – The front and back halls will now be one way. The back hallway will go from the "B" House/Gym area to the "A" House. The front hallway will go from the "A" House area to the "B" House. Traffic will be two-way in the breezeway, A & B House, 300 Hall, and 500 Hall.
6. Constable presence – We now have a constable that will be following students into Greensbrook after school to ensure student safety.
7. Campus Wide Restroom Passes – Students will receive a punch/initial card that can be placed in their ID holder. This punch card will have 8 horseshoes on it. It will be used in ALL classes when a student needs to use the restroom. If a student runs out of horseshoes, they may trade a lunch detention for a restroom pass. It is each student’s responsibility to keep up with their restroom pass.
8. Additional Administrative Support – Dr. Carrier is a new administrative team member who will be on campus this spring.
9. 15/15 Rule – No students are allowed out of class during the first 15 minutes of each class period and the last 15 minutes of each class period.
Thanks for all that you do!
See you around the campus...
Remember, we are the Best school with the Best students and the Best faculty and staff. Good, Better, Best!!! Never let it rest, until your good gets better and your better gets best!
Sincerely,
Leroy Bradley II

One School, One Book
Dear Parent/Guardian: This month our school will be embarking on a special project, an all-school book club called One School, One Book™. Every student will have access to the same book titled Fish in Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. I am personally asking you to make the time so that your family can participate in this special activity. Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader, and it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. Our 6th grade students will read the book with their ELA teachers and our 7th and 8th grade students will read it with their electives teachers. However, all students will have access to additional copies in the library, which they may check out. With the One School, One Book™ program, we aim to build a Community of Readers at our school. Everyone – students, parents, teachers, and even administrative staff will all be following along together. Along with the book, you will receive a reading schedule so that you can keep up at home.

Suggest that your teen start a word journal. Whenever she reads or hears a new word, she can write it in her journal. Later she could add its definition and draw a doodle to help her remember what it means. Encourage her to use words from her journal when she writes.

Here’s how your tween can make a handy math reference guide. Have him staple file folders together accordion style. Then, he could write formulas, math terms and definitions, and sample problems on the panels to refer to when he does homework.

Holding up a cell phone to take pictures at a public event can block the view of others. Remind your child to be considerate. If she wants to snap a photo, or record video, she should move someplace where she won’t keep others from seeing what’s going on.

Discussing dating, sex, drugs, or alcohol can be squirm-inducing for both parents and teens. Adopt an “all questions welcome” attitude. If your child asks an awkward question, avoid judgment and stick to the facts so he’ll feel comfortable coming to you in the future.

Is that information your child found online current? Before she adds it to her paper, suggest she look for the date it was posted, a “last updated” note, or the most recent listings under the “news” section to make sure the site is updated regularly.

Have your teen pull out his old Legos. But instead of building a structure, suggest that he stretch his creative muscles by arranging blocks into a mosaic-style picture. Does he need help getting started? For inspiration, he could search online for “Lego mosaic.”

When your child needs to show grit, remind her to be like the “tortoise” from “The Tortoise and the Hare.” The tortoise won not because he was faster or smarter, but because he was mentally tough and determined to keep going. Your child can do the same.
