19th Amendment August 18, 1920

Overview

Women wanted to vote but they were not allowed to. The 15th amendment was ratified allowing African American males the right to vote. Women were made so they started to have movements and protests. During this time World War 1 was going on. The stopped protesting in front of the white house but then did it again.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Early leader of the woman's rights movement. Wrote the Declaration of Sentiments. Help formed the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) in 1869. Held the Seneca Falls Convention in July 1848. Became the NWSA’s first president.

Susan B. Anthony

Was the president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. Helped establish the American Equal Rights Association in 1866 with Stanton. Created and produced The Revolution, a weekly publication that lobbied for women's rights in 1868 with Elizabeth.

1968

Overview

A Lot of things happened during in the year 1968. The civil rights movement was important. African Americans wanted to be treated equally. The Vietnam war took longer than expected and thought that the Tet Offensive would help, but it didn't. The death of Martin Luther King Jr. caused many riots all over the country. Robert Kennedy was also shot and killed.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Was a Baptist minister, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. With others, founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Made his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

Robert Kennedy

Won the Democratic Presidential primary in California. In L.A. he was shot and killed.

Mexican American War

Overview

Mexico and the US were fighting over what would be Texas' border. Also the US thought that it was manifest destiny to move west. Mexico did not want to give the US any land. So the US went to war to acquire that land. Mexico thought that they would need help so they brought Santa Anna back from exile.

President James Polk

Was president of the United States when he sent troops to attack Mexico. Wanted land west because he believed in manifest destiny.

Santa Anna

Was a Mexican Dictator and Commander. Was overthrown and sent into exile. Soon came back to lead Mexican troops to win. But in the end they lost.

19th Amendment

Congress

The 19th amendment was the most important because women would finally be able to vote. Also they would be treated equally. They won't have to be arrested and mistreated for wanting to vote.
