MGP Family Newsletter

23-24 Back to School Edition

8.11.23

Dear Maple Grove Families,

Welcome back to school, MGP families! We hope that your family had a safe and FUN summer. We are looking forward to another AMAZING school year at MGP with our Wildcats!

The MGP Family Newsletter will come to you at the beginning of each month. It will contain information you'll need to know about what's going on at school, highlights of student learning, celebrations, and helpful hints for families. We welcome your feedback regarding the educational services and communication we provide to our students and families. We value our whole-school community and want to partner with you!

This year we are going to continue our focus on high levels of learning for ALL students and creating an intentional culture that is optimal for student learning. We will always seek to partner with you in every aspect of your child’s educational journey and will approach our work with a student-centered lens. Thank you for the privilege of getting to teach your child every day!

Please plan to join us at MGP for our Back to School Night on Thursday, August 24 from 5:00-7:00 PM. This will be an opportunity for you and your child to come to school and meet his/her teacher as well as classmates! Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Another great way to stay connected is to follow us on Instagram using the handle listed below. We will be posting regularly about all of the GREAT things happening at school! Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, our staff, or our administration team with any questions you may have. We are always happy to hear from you! It is our pleasure to serve the students and families of Maple Grove Primary. We can’t wait for school to begin!

Parent Pickup of Students

In an effort to keep our students and families as safe as possible during parent pickup at the end of the day, please follow our new process for the 23-24 school year.

  • All students will be walked to their grade level lines with staff supervisors BEFORE they are able to go with families (walking families included).
  • Students in the parent pickup line will be dismissed ONLY to walking families or families driving through the parent pickup line. [If you drive to the MGP campus to pick up your student(s), the expectation is that you remain in your vehicle in the pickup line.]
  • All families will receive a colored card with their student last name and grade. This card MUST be displayed for MGP staff to see at parent pickup. If a vehicle does NOT have the colored card available, please park and pick up your student through the main office.
  • MGP staff will ONLY open the door closest to the curb and help the student inside. Please plan accordingly with car seats, etc.

Please see our Parent Pickup Parking Lot Route and contact us with any questions you may have.

Bus Transportation

Our wonderful bus company will be on site during Back to School Night to answer any questions you may have about busing. Please plan to join us!

2023-24 School Calendar

An updated 2023-24 school calendar is now available. The district has received approval from the state to once again add two additional student non-attendance days for staff development. This year, these dates will be on Wednesday, Nov. 15, and Wednesday, Feb. 15. In addition to late-start Wednesdays, these days will provide teachers with opportunities to plan instruction, analyze data and determine next steps for student growth. The additional time also allows for classified staff to complete required training.

Families in need of child care options can find more information on the district website.

No charge for K-4 student meals this year

This year, all Battle Ground Public Schools students in kindergarten through fourth grade will receive free breakfast and lunch at school regardless of household income. However, it is important for all families to complete a free and reduced-price meal application, even if they do not believe that they will qualify. Completion of this form provides state funding that helps to provide this benefit.

Students in grades 5-12 whose families qualify for free/reduced meals will continue to receive breakfast and lunch at no cost. Meal prices will remain unchanged this school year.
