AMCMS Principal's Office
What is going on in the Principal's Office?
My Challenge to You
Take a moment to think about the questions being asked in the image above. These questions came from this article linked here.
Here are the questions listed above:
- What kinds of teaching leads to what kinds of learning?
- How can I use my strengths more effectively?
- How are teaching and learning changing?
- How can I step outside of my comfort zone and grow?
- What do I know and what do I lack?
- What do students and parents need from me?
I encourage you to take a few moments and think about each question and how they apply to you. Why? Because personal reflection is critical to our own growth.
I've always believed that we are either getting better or getting worse. Life is always moving and changing and if we do not change along with it, we are being left behind.
Over the years I have learned that taking the time to reflect upon and measure my efforts, progress, and results has given me a better understanding of the outcomes and how they were or were not achieved. If we don't ever slow down and reflect from time to time we begin to chalk up our successes and failures to fate, chance, or luck because we do not think about what actually went into the outcomes we achieved.
Spring break is rapidly approaching. During spring break this year I challenge you to take some time out to reflect. Think about your achievement and struggles from this year. What went into those? What will you do differently? Now, what will you do going forward?
Think. Achieve. Succeed.
Jeff

AMCMS SPED Tip of the Week
Tech Tools for Struggling Learners Series: Math
AdaptedMath - Math practice tool that is interactive, gives feedback, and allows students to practice the skills they’ve learned.
K-7 Mathcasts - Library of recordings that allow for students to review instruction on various topics when they need to.
Geometry Pad (itunes app) - This virtual graph paper allows students to draw shapes, charts, and other geometric features. Students can change the properties of shapes, zoom in, save their work and add written notes on the side. Geometry Pad is a great application that can be used with students of any age and across mathematical disciplines.
Pattern Shapes (itunes app) - Understanding the properties of shapes, fractions and creating precise figures is easy with Pattern Shapes. Students can use the virtual protractor to measure angles, change the dimensions and color of forms and annotate answers. It is ideal for elementary and middle school students, and the bright colored shapes can inspire creative design.
Get the Math - The aim of this tool is to relate algebra to the real world. Through topics like “Math in Music” and “Math in Fashion,” students can learn how math is an integral part of everyday life. There are videos, exercises and other ways that students can engage with algebra in its real world setting. GetTheMath is an excellent way to combine theory with application.
Studygeek - Mathematical vocabulary is fundamental to understanding math. Study Geek is a great learning tool that has an alphabetical glossary of thousands of math vocabulary words. There is also a selection of informative videos that cover everything from geometry to algebra. The games aim is to test math vocabulary retention, and students will enjoy playing a game and learning at the same time.
Technology Tip of the Week
AutoDraw
AutoDraw is a tool that uses artificial intelligence to guess what you’re trying to draw. You start with a blank screen, begin sketching something, and AutoDraw gives you a strip of professionally illustrated images to choose from, based on what the tool thinks you’re trying to draw.
Autodraw is a tool that has lots of potential for educational use. It could be used to create visual representations of their notes (especially for students that get frustrated with their drawing skills) or you can use it to add drawings to your classroom materials. Another great way to use it would be with students that finish their work early you can give them some time to play with autodraw and illustrate their learning from the day.
Oh, and it can be used on your computer or with an iPad.
Check it out here.
