Halloween Update

As Halloween is quickly approaching, I wanted to give an update on what that celebration will look like at Ferson this year. Plans for remote classroom celebrations with be forthcoming from remote teachers.

  • Students may wear costumes to school on Friday, October 30th. We will not be changing into costumes, so they will need to wear them the entire day.
  • Props representing weapons are not allowed.
  • Students should not wear costumes which promote gore, violence, or inappropriate imagery.
  • No costume face coverings or masks can be worn. Students will need to adhere to the CDC mask guidelines that have been in place since the first day of school.

We will not hold our typical Halloween parade this year. Our party will also look differently as parent volunteers are not permitted in the school at this time. Classroom teachers will be working with head room parents to determine needs for the party, if there are any. While Halloween celebrations will look differently at school, we know the students will still have a fun day!

2019-2020 Yearbooks

Our yearbooks from the 2019-2020 school year are in! Books will be distributed at the beginning of next week to students who ordered the books last year. Please look for them to come home on Monday or Tuesday via backpacks. If you have a 6th grader who should receive a 2019-2020 Ferson yearbook, it will be sent home with their younger sibling. Otherwise families of 6th graders will be contacted to come and pick up their yearbook at a different time.

Thank you to all of the volunteers for putting together the amazing books, as well as sorting and distributing them!

ComEd Financial Assistance

We want to make sure families are aware of ComEd financial assistance programs. Some customers continue to experience financial hardships as a result of the ongoing pandemic, and ComEd has resources to support with payment assistance.

Head Room Parents

There are still some classrooms that don't have head room parents. While room parents will look differently this year, we are looking for room parents for both in-person and remote teachers. These people will act as liaisons between the teacher and parents. Because of our current COVID climate, we will be unable to have parent volunteers in the building. However, these volunteers would work closely with the classroom teacher to support the needs of the classroom. This could look like coordinating activities and/or organizing supplies. The Sign-Up Genius is now live. Please remember that even if you are not a head room parent, there will still be ways to support the classroom. We appreciate your support and flexibility as we continue to navigate the different aspects of our school year.
