Interim Principal's Message

Happy Valentine's Day Eaton Community!

The in-person staff truly enjoyed the treats from the H.S.A. Thank you for thinking of us, you're the best!

I appreciate all of the engagement last week on in-person learning. I want to continue to share that Term 3 isn't our final plan for hosting in-person learning for school year 20-21. In the coming weeks we will launch another survey to capture your wishes for your child's participation in on campus experiences. I would love to be able to share what our future plans are but, it is just too soon. We are in touch with reps from the Office of the State Superintendant of Education (O.S.S.E.) to learn about outdoor learning opportunities and the Enrichment Team is scouting vendors to enhance our extended in-person plans. Please stay tuned for updates!

Unfortunately, last Wednesday was Nurse Esposito's last day with Children's National School Nursing program. Nurse Esposito resigned abruptly due to schedule changes by Children's management. We will have floating nurse coverage; once we have our permanent nurse, we will make introductions to the community. Nurse Esposito will be missed, she was very much a part of our learning community.

Tomorrow we celebrate Presidents Day, there is no school for students or staff. Tuesday, February 16th will be all virtual learning as shared by the district office. There will be no in-person learning experiences Tuesday.

Please contact me if you are interested in serving on the Foxhall and MacArthur community working group to represent Eaton's interests. This new Ward 3 school will address some of the overcrowding in Ward 3 schools and establish possible new boundary lines for Ward 3 residents. If you live in the Wilson feeder pattern, this may be of great interest to you!

Don't forget to subscribe to this newsletter, I have about 110 subscribers and we've had over 300 views for each published newsletter. I will continue to send it through Blackboard until more families are subscribed.

My bio has been added to the school's website, check it out here: https://www.eatondc.org/principals-corner.html

Onward!

Fireside Chat: Student Achievement

Join us Thursday evening (5:30-6:45) for our Fireside Chat on Student Achievement. (The link will be released Thursday morning.) As we cross the mid-year threshold, we invite you to see how our students have progressed from the beginning of the school year. Our instructional coaches and several of our teacher leaders from grades K-5 will unpack how teachers use student performance data to inform their practice and develop strong instructional plans that help students finish the year strong. Your child's Term 2 report and copies of their MOY assessments should arrive to your home in the coming week. Don't forget, you can view the report card on the Aspen portal.

Audubon's Society Great Backyard Bird Count

Each year the Audubon Society hosts the Great Backyard Bird Count. This year the count event takes place February12th-15th. On your next walk about the neighborhood, see how many different species of birds your family can spot. Visit the official website of the Audubon society https://www.birdcount.org/ and log your findings. I spotted this cardinal in a neighbor's yard. Bird watching is a great COVID safe activity, join the fun!
