Tiger Tales from Sanborn School
Week of November 15th, 2021
Dear Sanborn Families,
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through November and getting ready for Parent/Teacher Conferences and the holiday season. At Sanborn, we are thankful for: the opportunity to teach your amazing children, the dedicated and hardworking staff, and the wonderful partnership between home and school. Our staff looks forward to Parent/Teacher Conferences next week, Monday and Tuesday, in order to share the progress your child has made this school year. If you have not scheduled a conference yet, please reach out to your child's teacher so that this important meeting can happen. Conferences are being offered in-person or virtually for parents this year. Families will be able to view their child's report card through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal after 3:00 p.m. this Friday, November 19th.
On October 28th, one of our reading specialists, Mrs. Jenkinson, organized Read for the Record Day with our primary classrooms. Read for the Record helps to support early literacy skills and fosters language development and social-emotional development in students. This year's story is called Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon, by Kat Zhang. This story is a celebration of cultural symbols, family, and self-affirmation. Some of our classrooms enjoyed a guest reader from our staff who read this story and facilitated a discussion about the story with the class. Thank you to Mrs. Jenkinson for organizing this opportunity!
The office received 49 Golden Paw Awards during the month of October. A Golden Paw is given to an entire class for following our three school expectations: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Congratulations to Ms. Ruddy's first grade class and Mrs. Cortez's fourth grade class for being the two winners this month! They were able to enjoy an extra recess and time to draw with chalk outside last week when the weather was close to 60 degrees!
All of Sanborn School wishes you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving. We hope you are able to rest, relax, and enjoy all of the joy this holiday brings to you and your family. As a reminder, students do not have school November 22nd and 23rd. We look forward to seeing your students on Monday, November 29th.
Warmly,
Kate Arenberg, Principal

From the PTA
Thank you to our PTA for a successful Coin Challenge, Book Fair, and Food Truck Event this past month. We appreciate your dedication to Sanborn School! Our staff is looking forward to donuts and raffle prizes this Wednesday, November 17th, which will be graciously provided by our PTA!
The PTA is in desperate need of a President Elect for next school year. If you are interested in this position, or volunteering your time to support the wonderful PTA initiatives, please let Mrs. Arenberg or Mrs. Reiswig know.
This Thursday, November 18th, is the next Dine and Share. This will be held at Rep's Place, 3200 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows, from 11:00 a.m.- close. This event will be dine-in or carry-out. 15% of proceeds will go back to Sanborn School. Rep's Place was at the October 30th PTA Food Truck Event and their burgers were delicious!
There will not be a December PTA meeting, so we look forward to the January 11th meeting at 6:30 p.m. This will be in person in the Library, or via Google Meet.

Privacy and student data protection is a key priority for the District. Our three main technology departments (instructional technology, technology, and data services) work to make sure our systems and vendors comply with the requirements of the Student Online Personal Protection Act or SOPPA, which regulates how student information is protected by school districts and education technology vendors they use. Our student privacy web page outlines our privacy related actions and protective measures.
We also employ a number of measures like on-site filtering, student device monitoring, and security tools which protect our network from outside threats. Students participate in digital citizenship curriculum, and staff can employ tools to support students in making good digital choices. Lastly, our district participates in several state and national consortiums, collaborating with other districts to keep informed on best practices and new resources that may support our data privacy policies.
