Ball Park Newsletter - #14
December 4 - 7
Principal's Message
Dear Jackie Robinson K- 8 Community,
We have 10 more days of school left in the month of December and the Robinson Staff is committed to making them engaging and productive to help ensure social / emotional and student academic success! Parents, please know that teachers are working hard to deliver standards based lessons and it is extremely important that you help us make sure our Dolphins are attending every day. Remember that these grades matter!
I had the pleasure of meeting with almost every teacher last week via Zoom and we discussed the following topics:
- How grateful they are for all of the parent support from home
- How proud they are of our Dolphins for having a growth mindset and continuing to learn despite the challenges of distance learning
- Parent efforts to help support our attendance
- How much they appreciate parent efforts to come by the school to pick up instructional materials during distribution days.
- How much they need for work being completed by students to be authentic work
For our Middle School parents... by now you should have received your child's first progress report. Please have a conversation with your child to discuss what they need to do keep their great scores or improve their concerning scores. If you have questions or concerns make sure your child or you are in communication with your child's teacher.
This Thursday, December 10th, our Math / English Middle School teachers will have some release / collaboration time so please make sure they pay attention to assignments provided by their teachers.
The following teachers will not be available and will leave ASYNCHRONOUS work for students to complete during the following periods:
Periods 1 - 3: Mr. Licano, Ms. Jones, Ms. Marengo, Mr. Jones and Mr. Ramos
Periods 4 - 6: Ms. Miller, Ms. Mendenhall, Ms. Orantes, Ms. Walsh and Mr. Branda
With appreciation,
Salvador Madrigal
Principal
Jones, Sra. Marengo, Sr. Jones y Sr. Ramos
Períodos 4 - 6: Sra. Miller, Sra. Mendenhall, Sra. Orantes, Sra. Walsh y Sr. Branda
Con aprecio,
Salvador Madrigal

Measure E Update:
Neighbors, parents, and other members of the Robinson school community are invited to a briefing on the existing Measure E new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) project for Jackie Robinson K-8 Academy. Measure E improvements for HVAC and related work for Robinson Academy is scheduled to start in the summer of 2021.
Additional related work includes accessibility improvements, ceiling/lighting renovations, fire alarm upgrade, and utility infrastructure upgrades. This is possible due to voters’ approval November 2016 of the $1.5 billion school bond initiative, known as Measure E.
To learn more about how this project will affect your neighborhood and how we plan to minimize inconveniences related to parking, traffic and noise, tune in for this upcoming information session available on the LBUSD YouTube Channel beginning Friday, October 30th at LBschools.net/YouTube then go to Playlists and select Measure E.

ATTENDANCE
Research has shown that absences negatively impact a student’s education and reduce
opportunities for success in school. As such, the District will monitor online participation on a
daily basis and communicate with you if your child is absent from their online learning sessions.
In addition, we will proactively work with you to identify and resolve any barriers to your child’s
Participation. Please alert your teacher or call the Office if your student is our sick or can’t log for connectivity reason.
Our Dolphins have 3 major responosibilites: engage in learning, complete assignments on time, and stay in touch with teachers.
Parents can help too by:
*Establishing a routine for bed time a
nd for the morning for your child
*Checking on your child’s attendance regularly (ParentVue)
*Encouraging your child to log in to CANVAS account, participate and engage unless he/she is truly sick
*Calling the school and provide notes when your child is absent
*Communicate with your teacher or Office to report any technology problems.

Summary of Meal Service Changes, Effective October 19, 2020
To improve meal services and support the needs of families in our community and our employees, Nutrition Services will make the following changes in meal distribution, effective October 19, 2020:
1. Grab and Go meals for two days at each pick-up – Students and parents/guardians may pick up two days’ worth of meals on alternate days instead of making the daily trips.
- Monday’s pick-up includes meals for Monday and Tuesday.
- Wednesday’s pick up is for Wednesday and Thursday.
- Friday and Saturday’s meals are available for pick-up on Friday.
This change is in support of social distancing and minimizes the exposure of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) for families and our frontline employees.
2. Four meal types will be available for each day: breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper at all service locations – Each recipient will receive eight meals as a unit.
3. Universal meal pick up period from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – This change streamlines the meal pick up period for all service locations regardless of grade levels and takes the guesswork out of parents on the meal pick up time, especially for parents with school age children in multiple grade levels.
4. Offer versus Serve for milk – This change allows recipients to decline milk or take only the quantity of milk that they desire to reduce waste.
Parents/guardians picking up meals without children present or picking up additional meals for children who stay at home must present documentation for verification. Nutrition Services Branch employees are expected to ask for the acceptable documents daily even if the parents/guardians have been visiting the same location. The acceptable documents include but are not limited to the following.
a. LBUSD student ID
b. Any student ID issued by any agencies
c. Benefit issuance letter showing children are part of the adult’s household:
§ Meal Eligibility Letter from LBUSD or any districts
§ Benefit issuance document from Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
d. Tax Returns
e. Birth Certificate
f. Any official documents showing children are part of the adult’s household
Any questions regarding meal services should be directed to Nutrition Services Branch at 562-427-7923. Thank you.
