COLLEGE TIP OF THE WEEK
Should I Take the SAT/ACT? - If you are thinking about applying to a college, look at its testing policies and start planning
Dartmouth - Just changed their testing policy requirement!
Test policies for individual colleges are continuously changing
Students should also research how important standardized test scores are to an institution. You can do this by attending information sessions and reading their websites.
Students can go to any individual college website and look at Freshman Class Profiles to see average test scores for attending students
Look at Pre-Covid numbers to get a more realistic measure
Example Pomona’s average SAT for 10 years before the pandemic was 1470 and for the last 2 years it is 1520
Students should also think about test optional institutions. Check out Fair Test website for list of test optional colleges

What is the Student Aid Index (SAI)? (From Federal Student Aid, Dept of Education)
The Student Aid Index (SAI) is an eligibility index number that your college’s or career school’s financial aid office uses to determine how much federal student aid you would receive if you attended the school.
This number results from the information that you provide on your FAFSA® form. This number is not a dollar amount of aid eligibility or what your family is expected to provide. A negative SAI indicates the student has a higher financial need.
Learn how the SAI is calculated.
The college or career school will determine your financial need by subtracting your SAI from the cost of attendance.
The SAI replaced the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
