Welcome Back to School!
Dear Winston Campus Elementary Families:
I hope that you and your family had an amazing summer vacation! It is so valuable to take quality time to spend with your family and friends. My family and I got to swim with dolphins, snorkel with stingray, and welcome our new puppy, Maui, to the family! The Winston Elementary staff and I can’t wait to see all our students back at school! The first day of school is quickly approaching!
- Students in grades 1-6 will return to school on Wednesday, August 14.
- Kindergarten and preschool classes will begin Thursday, August 15.
We are very excited about the 2019-2020 school year and can’t wait to get started!
**Please note this email replaces the packet you have previously received in the mail over the summer. It is filled with important information to review regarding the 2019-2020 school year. Please read it over carefully and feel free to call or email the school office with any questions you might have.
Over the summer, Winston Campus Elementary received Platinum recognition with the Midwest PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Network of schools. This is our 4th year earning this prestigious award and we could not be more proud! Platinum is the highest level of recognition and it means all of our academic and behavioral support systems are in place and are highly effective.
Our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) theme this year is Time Travel. We teach our students how to be respectful, responsible and safe throughout the school year. We also teach our students strategies and help them learn to solve their own problems. We have the highest expectations for all of our students and staff and we live by our core beliefs, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Upon demonstrating our core beliefs, students will earn celebrations to travel through time to meet influential people in history!
We will continue with our Expect Respect Program and continue to teach students our stop sign and proactive measures to respond to disrespectful behaviors. Your child will bring home our PBIS handbook during the first weeks of school. Included in our handbook is information about all of our PBIS systems. We ask every WCE parent to review the handbook with your child. We even ask that the parent, student and teachers sign a contract agreeing to follow all of our PBIS expectations. Please return the signed contract to your child’s teacher by Friday, August 30th.
One of our primary goals at Winston Campus Elementary is to promote college and career readiness with all our students. We want our students to be thinking about their future and it is our job as educators to prepare our students for all the choices that life has to offer. You will see college symbolism all around our school. All of our classrooms have adopted colleges and have fun college systems and routines. All of our students also have a College Readiness Data Binder. Students use these binders to set goals, monitor their progress, and even keep outstanding work in their binders. These binders do not go home at the end of the year; they stay at school and follow the child during their career at Winston Campus Elementary.
