We Engage We Educate We Inspire
Hello Stallions!
On the Friday before Fall Break we had our second Stampede of the year. It was awesome! At these monthly assemblies, we recognize our students for their successes. We recognize three students from each grade level who exhibited our three core characteristics, Safe, Respectful and Engaged (SRE). We recognize several students for doing a great job in reading with Barnes and Noble gift cards provided by the Foresters organization. We also recognize one student for showing great character with a new bike. The Gilbert Kiwanis provides the bike each month thanks to a donation from Dawn Garcia our neighborhood HomeSmart realtor. Steve Edman from Horace Mann helps us recognize our faculty member and support staff member of the month. We get really loud; our mascot makes an appearance and joins the students in singing our school song. It really is a fun time.
Our students receiving recognition for being SAFE this month are Grace Barber (K), Juliana Smith (1st), Rafal Al Qaderi (2nd), Braydon Felix (3rd), Isaiah Vasquez (4th), Xavier Morales (5th), Priyanka Talwar (6th) and my pick, Abel Villa. Our students recognized for being RESPECTFUL this month are Bo Williams (K), Nico Corvelli (1st), Kylena Lang (2nd), Roman Flores (3rd), Emerson Boyd (4th), Emily Keys (5th), Sophie Baker (6th) and my pick Christopher Berrett. Our students recognized for being ENGAGED this month are Taylor Lane (K), Hanna Freeman (1st), Makayla Paige (2nd), Kyla Layhe (3rd), Lizzie Burnett (4th), Jack Palmer (5th), Gavin Burton (6th) and my pick, Jacobo Gardino.
The following students received a $10 Barnes and Noble gift certificate thanks to the Foresters organization: Bella Mathewson, Jordan Willman, Amelia Call, Lucas Marcks, Lilliana Fernandez, Terrill Smith. And finally, for showing amazing character all last month, Seth Baker went home with a bicycle on Friday thanks to Dawn Garcia and Gilbert Kiwanis. Our employees of the month were Mary Howard, our 5th Grade teacher, and Gayle Warner, one of our SPICE paraprofessionals.
As I shared in last week’s Round-Up, we are using Signup.com to schedule parent-teacher conferences. You will be able to select your student’s teacher(s) and then pick a day/time for the conference. It is a pretty easy process, but if you run into any trouble, please contact us for assistance. So, if you have not done so already, please go to https://signup.com/Group/687003849145428056/ to schedule your conference(s).
As you prepare for Parent-Teacher Conference, here are a few items to keep in mind.
Before the conference:
- Ask your child how she feels about school.
- Ask your child if there is anything that he wants you to talk about with his teacher.
- Tell your child that you and the teacher are meeting to help her.
- Make a list of topics that you want to talk about with the teacher.
- Prepare a list of questions such as:
1. What are my child's strongest and weakest subjects?
2. Does my child hand homework in on time?
3. Does my child participate in class?
4. Does my child seem happy at school?
5. What can I do at home to help?
During the conference:
- Be on time (or early) for the meeting.
- End the meeting on time. Other parents will probably have a conference after yours.
- Relax and be yourself.
- Stay calm during the conference.
- Ask the most important questions first.
- If your child receives special services such as reading support, ask about your child's progress in those classes.
- Ask for explanations of anything you don't understand
- Ask your child's teacher for ways that you can help your child at home.
- Thank the teacher.
After the conference:
- Talk about the conference with your child.
- Talk about the positive points, and be direct about problems.
- Tell your child about any plans you and the teacher created.
- Keep in touch with the teacher during the school year.
Thank you all for participating in this important aspect of school!
Just to clarify our schedule this week. Wednesday is an Early Release Day. Students will dismiss at 2:30 PM on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday, students will head home at 12:30 PM to allow time for conferences.
This week is also Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign. Each year our Student Council comes up with fun dress up day ideas to support Red Ribbon Week. The dress-up days for each day next week are below. Student Council tries to make it a fun and easy way for everyone to participate. It should be an awesome week!
The Week Ahead:
And Beyond...
Have a great week!
Be Safe,
Principal
