"change the Columbus day ??"
what do u think?
Should the United States change the name of the October 12 Columbus Day Holiday?
In my opinion they shouldn't change the name of the October 12 Columbus Day Holiday because it's disrespectful to Italian Americans.
What does it matter if they change it now?!!!
Changing the Holiday Makes No Sense!!!
- "Brown University made itself an example to the nation by carefully exploring its ties to the slave trade and using that process to promote greater understanding," Cicilline said in a press release Thursday. But the decision to "simply erase the celebration of an incredibly significant moment in world history and Italian-American culture for the sake of political correctness does just the opposite," he said.
No Comparison
- comparing 16th century customs is not a valid comparison.
- Slavery can be traced back to the earliest records, such as the Code of Hammurabi (c. 1760 BC), which refers to it as an established institution.[3]
^ "Mesopotamia: The Code of Hammurabi". http://www.wsu.edu/~dee/MESO/CODE.HTM. "e.g. Prologue, "the shepherd of the oppressed and of the slaves" Code of Laws No. 7, "If any one buy from the son or the slave of another man"."
Take the Good With the Bad !!!
- As a holiday, Columbus Day allows us to reflect upon these historical facts, and to realize that the good far outweighs the bad. Virtually every major civilization in history, prior to ours, practiced some form of slavery or coerced oppression.
