Happy Birthday To:

Jacoby: May 28

Yikes~5 more weeks!!!

Can you believe it??? I still remember the first day. It feels like yesterday. The year has flown by and what an amazing class we have! I want you to know how much I appreciate each and everyone of you! Thank you for sharing your child with me each day and trusting us here at Sunshine with your precious child!! I love my job and I wouldn't have it, if it wasn't for you, so thank you!!!

Wasn't the zoo fun??? The kids are still talking about it. During the month of April we study 4 different zoo animals and now the kids have completed an animal report. They are amazing. I can't wait for you to see them. Make sure to read the newsletter I sent home and check in the BEE binders to see when your child will present.

In April, we also learned about the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. The kids are doing great with money. Towards the end of May we will have a Kindergarten Penny Sale and they can put their money skills to work. More info will be sent home. We have also learned about the 5 H brothers: SH, TH, WH. CH. and PH. They have LOVED this!! They have stories each day on where they have found the H brothers. Claire told me the other day that her mom found Phil (PH). :) So fun!!

Now onto May. I'm sure you have heard, but in case you haven't....we have caterpillars. We will watch the caterpillars turn into butterflies. Hopefully they will hatch before Memorial Day weekend. Make sure to ask your child what stage of the Life Cycle we are in. They will be learning some big words :)

I know this is a busy time of year, but please keep reading the Watch Me Read stories with your child. It's important to keep reading and into the summer so they don't have the summer slide. Every child is reading and we don't want them to loose that. Read, Read, Read over the summer. If they do continue to read, they will feel very successful when they start 1st grade.

Here's a recap of the newsletter sent home on Thursday:

IRI Testing: Monday, May 4th
We will be testing letter names and letter sounds.

The letter sounds will determine the score.
*0-17 sounds 1 Below Grade Level
*18-29 sounds 2 Near Grade Level
*30+ sounds 3 At Grade Level

Animal Reports:
For the last several weeks we have been learning about different zoo animals. We have chosen 4 different animals to study. The kids will be presenting their reports to the class (and their parents) May 4th-8th. Please check the calendar in their BEE binders to see when your child is presenting. The animal reports will be given during the first 15 minutes of class. If you would like to listen to your child's animal report, please plan on staying when you drop your child off. Your child's report should take about 5 minutes. If you have a younger sibling, they are more than welcome to stay and listen. If your child is scheduled on a day you cannot make it, please let me know and we can reschedule. I'm so excited for them!! It should be fun.

Domino's Field Trip

On Wednesday, May 27th we will meet at Domino's in Kuna @ 9:30a.m. for a special kindergarten field trip. We will tour the backroom and learn how to make a pizza. Your child and a buddy will be able to make their own pizza. Then we will head to the Kuna Park and eat our pizza together. I will provide drinks and pizza for the adults & siblings. :) Remember no school on the 27th, we'll just meet at Domino's @ 9:30.

Thank You!!

I just wanted to let you know I will be gone on Thursday May 14th and Monday June 1st. My son has a field trip on May 14th and my daughter has her 6th grade send off on June 1st. We are so lucky to have Miss Hilary as our sub. She is the pre-K teacher that teaches in the afternoon. The kids know her and she knows them. They won't even skip a beat when I'm gone :)

We still have a lot of exciting projects to do! Thanks for making sure your child gets to school each day.

Again thank you for all you do and have a wonderful day!

Miss Sara

P.S. Don't forget that we need parent helpers for our graduation please... please look in your payment packet for a form to fill out to let us know you can help.
