SCPS IMPACT

Message from the Superintendent
As we head into Labor Day weekend, I want to thank our amazing, dedicated staff, students, and parents for working so hard together through the early weeks of distance learning. Every single day we remain focused and determined in our efforts to improve these services. Thank you for continuing to reach out to provide feedback and request on-going, needed support.
Division Updates
We continue to develop and work through the many complex challenges involved with the hybrid in-person learning model outlined in our Return to Learn Plan. We still plan to be prepared to transition into this model for those students/families who have chosen it on October 12th.
Over 200 hotspots have shipped and will arrive shortly! We can then begin our process of issuing them to students and families in need.
Beginning Tuesday, September 8th, eligible students may access activity-bus transportation to support use of the school’s internet/WiFi. Parents/Guardians will need to provide transportation and supervision to and from activity-bus hub sites.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) have authorized school division's to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students regardless of financial need. We are pleased to share that SCPS will begin distributing free grab and go meals twice a week beginning September 8th. Complete details are posted on each school and the division’s website.
Family Connection Webinars
As was shared last week, we will be providing a monthly Family Connection Webinar to support on-going and emerging needs of our many families. Relevant updates, topics, and resources will be shared along with answering pertinent questions. Below are the dates scheduled, with our first webinar scheduled for September 24th. Each meeting will be on a Thursday beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
September 24
October 22
November 12
January 28
March 4
May 13
Our first meeting will focus on a summary and insights into how distance learning has been progressing. This will include the sharing of testimonials, tools, and strategies from and for parents/caregivers. Each webinar will be accessible via livestream and saved to be viewed later for convenience.
I hope you are enjoying a beautiful, restful family weekend!
Have a great week!
