Parent Pick Up Procedure
Safety and efficiency is our goal with our procedure for picking up students in a vehicle after the school day. For that reason, we do have procedures in place to help our dismissal run efficiently. If you wish to pick up your child at the end of the day, there will be several options.
Pick up in the front (off of Ballard Road): The front circle is closed for pick up from 12:00-12:15 UNLESS you have a parking pass. Below are the parking pass times. If you DO NOT have a parking pass, you will not be let in the front circle drive until 12:16.
12:00 -(Red) -Pass Needed
12:04 -(Yellow) Pass Needed
12:08 -(Green) Pass Needed
12:12 -(Blue) Pass Needed
12:16 - No pass needed. - Anyone is welcome to pull in, and pull all the way forward in a single line to safely pick up their students along the supervised front curb. Many parents choose this convenient option.
Door 3 (facing Briarwood Rd) is dedicated to Kindergarten students. Parents who want to pick their Kindergartner up typically use this door. Parking on Briarwood is allowed. If your plan is to do this, then you don’t need to enter the lottery.
Pick Up Pass Lottery:
If you would like to have a parking pass to come in the front circle drive before 12:16, you will need to participate in our Pick Up Pass Lottery. This lottery will assign your family a pick up time and parking slot. Please fill out this google form to enter the lottery. Each of the above times (12:00, 12:04, 12:08, and 12:12, will allow 21 cars to enter the parking lot (2 cars per most spots double parked). Slots 2-10 can accommodate two cars double parked, slots 1, 11, and 12 can accommodate 1 car each. When the lottery is completed, you will be notified via email on what your pick up time is. A pass will be sent home with your child after the first day of school on October 5th. Please display this pass in your front window each day, allowing you in the circle drive at your assigned time. You will not be allowed into the parking lot until your assigned time or the open time of 12:16. If you arrive early, please circle around the block until it is your assigned time to enter the circle drive.
With safety in mind, we ask that all students enter their cars from the passenger side and that all drivers remain in the vehicle. If students need assistance, supervisors will assist students into the vehicles. Please do not park in the angled spots. We do not want children walking across the parking lot to their cars.
The deadline for filling out the google form for a pick up pass is Tuesday, September 29th at 10:00 p.m. The lottery drawing will take place Tuesday evening. You will be notified of your pick-up pass time slot on Thursday, October 1st, no later than 3:30 p.m.
If your student plans on taking the bus or walking each day then there is no need to complete the google form for the lottery. If you plan picking up some days, then the 12:16 time is open and you may freely come in the parking lot with no pass.
West Elementary Family Assistance
Throughout the school year, our school social worker is often asked by various community agencies to submit names of families who would appreciate some assistance, usually with clothing and food items. Names of families are submitted to these agencies only after consent has been given.
Does your family need assistance? If you would like your family to be considered for assistance, please complete the Family Assistance Consent form below.
Please note that resources can be limited, and completing this form is NOT a guarantee of assistance. If you have any questions, please contact Beata Moreschi, School Social Worker at 815-788-5558. Thank you.
A Note from the School Nurse
If your student will be "in-person" as of October 5th, and if he/she requires medication to be kept in the health office, please make sure you have the appropriate forms completed by your child's doctor. Please note, a form will need to be completed for each individual medication. Here is a link to the D47 Medication Authorization form.
Next week, the health office will be open Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am - 3:30 pm. Please stop at school with the form(s) and medication(s) for any students resuming in-person learning on Monday, October 5th.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at AJKeegan@d47.org or on my direct line, 815-788-5555
