The waiting period

The waiting period

There once was a boy named Jimmy. Jimmy loved to have everything right this second no matter what it was. One year Jimmy's birthday was coming up in one week but he wanted it right now so he sneaked into his parent's closet and stole his present's and opened them up right then and there he got in trouble but he didn't care, he was just happy he got it immediately. Then something happened. There was a war, Jimmy's dad was called into service to help fight because they needed more men. He would have to wait two years before his dad came back, if he ever came back, that is. This was the ultimate waiting period that might not even be worth it. Jimmy cried and cried the day his dad left. Jimmy realized his dad would miss two of his birthdays and two of his school years. Then all that sadness turned to rage and that rage into depression, Jimmy didn't have any friends for all that time and would barely talk to his mom. In that depression Jimmy had lost track of time because he didn't care about anything. All he thought about everyday was his dad and if he was alive or if he had died long ago. He had so many unanswered questions about his dad and about the war that he felt that his head might explode. One night he devised a plan to run away because he figured his dad was already dead and that there was no point in staying. But at 9:00 the night he was planning to go he heard a noise downstairs. He walked down with his baseball bat to investigate and in his kitchen sitting at the island bar was his dad. As soon as he saw him he broke down in tears crying of happiness and disbelief that his dad had come back after two and a half years. Within in the next week Jimmy came out of his depression and was back with all of his old friends. He and his dad started doing a lot more things together and enjoying every second of it. His dad promised to never leave and Jimmy said that even if he did he would always wait.
