News from Carl Sandburg Junior High
March 7, 2022
A Note from Mrs. Johansen
Dear Sandburg Families,
I'm pleased to say we've made a great adjustment to the new bell schedule at Sandburg. Thank you for your help getting the kids to school earlier! We know this adjustment hasn't been easy for everyone!
Third quarter ends on Friday, March 11th. Please encourage your child to check their grades and missing assignments in Infinite Campus. Progress Reports are posted in Infinite Campus on Friday, March 18th.
IAR Testing starts tomorrow afternoon at Sandburg. Students will take 3 math tests and 2 ELA tests. Tomorrow, we will take the first Math test. On Wednesday and Thursday, they will take two tests each day with ELA in the morning and Math in the afternoon. Students with testing accommodations will receive them as arranged by their individual plans.
How can you help?
1. Make sure your student gets a good night's sleep and has breakfast in the morning. We also have breakfast available at school from 7:20-7:30 daily.
2. All students need a charged Chromebook for testing. Please make sure your child is charging their device each evening.
3. Students will need wired headphones (no Airpods/wireless headphones) for testing.
4. Students may read a book after they are done testing.
5. A positive attitude. We realize how difficult these tests are and how long these days can be. However, please assure your child that we want them to do their best and believe they can do challenging things!
As always, we appreciate your support!
Have a great week!
Erika Johansen
5Essentials Survey Responses Needed Soon!
You have been invited to complete the Illinois 5Essentials Parent Survey. The information you provide will help guide improvement as we strive to inspire each student to realize their potential. Your participation in this survey is voluntary but crucial. We can’t receive results from the survey unless at least 20 percent of parents respond. The more responses parents provide, the more we will know how to focus our efforts toward the improvements you want. Please help us reach our goal by completing the survey.
· Go to: https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois to take the survey.
· Select “Parent Survey.”
· You may enter your email address if you would like to receive confirmation of your submission, but it is not required.
· Then enter “Cook” into the county field and “Carl Sandburg” to find our school. Be sure to select Carl Sandburg Junior High at 2600 Martin Lane in Rolling Meadows.
You will then be asked a series of questions to provide input regarding your family’s experience here at Carl Sandburg. Please remember to click “submit” once you are done so your responses can be counted.
Please know that your identity and responses will be kept confidential and will not be connected with your child. If you have multiple children who attend Lincoln, you may complete one survey for each child. However, only one parent per household may submit a survey for a given child. The survey closes on March 11, so please submit your responses soon!
Thank you in advance for your time and input. We appreciate you!
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact 5Essentials Customer Support at 1-866-440-1874 or 5essentials@uchicago.edu.
Girls Soccer and Track and Field Sign-up
We're so excited that sign-ups have started for our spring sports.
Track and Field and Girls Soccer are very popular activities for our students to participate in. We must adhere to the deadlines and students must have physicals on file before they can tryout and participate.
The Parent letter and Student letters are linked below.
Track and Field registration goes from March 1-31. Girls Soccer registration closes March 17th- try-outs are after Spring break.
We can't wait for these seasons to start!
Go Wildcats!
From the Sandburg PTSA
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Rep's Place fundraiser last week! We appreciate your support!
All parents interested in helping plan the 8th grade festivities, please join us for our next meeting on Tuesday, March 8th at 6:00. Please email Mrs. Johansen at johansee@ccsd15.net for the meeting link.
PATH Community Closet
We are hoping you can help by donating any unwanted clothing items at our school’s yellow clothing donation bin. The bin is located in Sandburg's lobby. Parents or children can place clothing items into their school’s yellow bin during regular school hours. This is a great way to put your children’s gently used and outgrown clothing to good use! All clothing, especially winter wear, is much appreciated and will be put to good use.
