Monthly KWC Newsletter
We're All in this Together!
Students in self contained special education programs that chose hybrid will start at KWC on October 13. Students in K-2 that chose hybrid will start in-person learning at KWC on October 27, per school board decision. Teachers and staff are working very hard to continue teaching in the distance learning environment, while still preparing for students to come back to in-person learning. Routines and expectations are being reviewed to ensure we have a clear plan in place to keep all our students and staff safe as they return to the school building. At this time, students that chose distance learning will remain in that environment through January 15. LCPS will resurvey parents in November to allow parents the opportunity to switch learning preferences for after January 15. More information will come from LCPS regarding this process. In the meantime, we are working to make the best of all decisions and preferences for our students. And we thank all parents that have really stuck by us through this fall so we can do what's best for their child with the constraints we are under.

Changes to Routines (In-Person Learning)
As we transition to In-person learning, the KWC Student Handbook has been updated. The Student Handbook is always accessible on the KWC school website. Sections that have been updated are highlighted in green. I will go into more detail on the routines in place during my scheduled Town Hall on October 7 for parents of hybrid students in grades K-2. Teachers will also be communicating with their specific classrooms about how these routines will look in their class, specific schedule changes, and Transportation Plans as we get closer to October 27. A sample schedule for students is noted below for a child assigned T/Th in-person learning.
For students returning to in-person learning, bus routes will be made available in ParentVUE once they are completed by transportation. When that happens, I will communicate that with parents. If your child is a car rider, they will need a car rider tag. If you have your tag from last year, you are all set! If you are new to KWC or car rider, please email Tammy.Milner@lcps.org to request a car rider tag. On the first day your child attends, Ms. Milner will be at the car rider line to check your state-issued photo ID and then provide you the car rider tag.
Quarter 1 Conferences
As we are approaching the end of the first marking period (October 30), teachers will be reaching out to parents to schedule virtual parent conferences. When available, teachers will send out directions on signing up for a conference time in ParentVue. A link will be provided by the teacher for the virtual conference. Please remember that the teacher may be doing back-to-back conferences. Therefore, if they don’t admit you right away, they are finishing up with another parent. In addition, please don’t attempt to get into the link until your actual scheduled time.
Students can download the Schoology App on personal devices, if they wish, as a back-up. Directions to do so are linked here.
As a reminder, parents can access their child’s Schoology account through ParentVUE
