Impact On Earth

If we get an asteroid impact we could all die. Impact on Earth by an asteroid would be sensational and possibly cataclysmic. The press and Hollywood often focus on the impact of a large asteroid. The Spaceguard Survey is an attempt to locate and track as many near-Earth objects as possible. The Earth has been getting hit by asteroids and comets for it's whole life.

Meterors vs Asteroids

Asteroids are small, rocky bodies that have been left over from the formation of the planets 4.5 billion years ago. They are often known as 'minor planets. Around 500 meteorites reach the Earth's surface every year but of those only around 5 ever make it to scientist for study. Most meteors become visible at around 60 miles up. Some large meteors splatter, causing a brighter flash called a fireball. Meteor showers occur when dust or particles from asteroids or comet enter Earth's atmospheres or comets enter Earth's atmosphere at very high speed. When they hit the atmosphere, meteors rub against air particles and it creates friction. When meteorites do hit the ground, their speed roughly half what it was upon entry, they blast out craters 12 to 20 times their size. Safety Precautions

People need to take shelter and and make a house or something to protect them they also need to provide lots of food for the. And there family and probably even go underground this bomb-proof shelter could be the most comfortable way to survive the Mayan apocalypse. Ron Hubbard manufactures hi-tech underground survival shelters - and has seen his business boom, from selling one a month to one a day in the past year.

The survival shelter's decontamination area leading into the living area.

Solutions to stop Asteroids

After analyzing information collected from a drilling operation, the researchers determined that the impact craters were formed at the same time. In the 1970s, things started to change. A small but increasing number of astronomers interested in asteroids began to realize the abundance of asteroids which passed close to Earth, by instituting processes to catalog asteroids accidentally seen on telescopic plates and previously not recorded (in most cases) but seen as a nuisance, as discussed in the PERMANENT section on discovering and cataloging asteroids.
