In Case You Missed It:
Baby Makai certainly has told everyone who is in charge around here. His due date for arrival was Saturday, but he showed no signs of being ready to come. Everyone, including myself, felt and said, it would be awhile, and definitely not Saturday. On Saturday morning around 3 am Brianna said she felt like things were starting, went to the hospital, and then he was born right after noon. I guess Makai will be calling the shots from now on. Congratulations to Brianna and Cory!
I'm elated about Evan Roush's announcement that his wife Sarah will be joining the faculty at J Glenn Edwards as their media specialist in November. Evan has been commuting over two hours each day since he joined us in March. If you know of a home their family of five could rent until summer, please let him know.
Congratulations to Bianca DiMarcello and Kevin Degon for completing AVID Implementation training last week! This was provided at the Civic Center by our Demo Coach, Donna Kortvelesy. Their additional hours of training in the AVID system takes our staff average to almost 16 hours of training. Our elective team is recieving training this year from Paula Layton, LCS AVID District Director, catered to their needs. They received training in designing WICOR based lessons in September and have more planned throughout the year. We will offer multiple one to one and a half hour trainings for teachers to select what will best meet your needs on our early dismissal day, 10/27/17. These will take place at 1pm, so mark your calendars!
If you haven't noticed, Evan is taking care of all discipline while Jamie is away. I am doing all first round observations. The first round is announced and include preconferences. I set up the last group of preconferences and choices for observation times on Saturday. If you believe you are supposed to receive three observations this year (a teacher in their first four years of teaching, a teacher in their renewal year, a teacher new to our district) and have not been notified, please let me know ASAP. I am supposed to be done by the end of the month.
I'm excited to announce that we have some prestigious guests coming to our National Demonstration Celebration on Wednesday morning. Robert Logan (AVID's Eastern Divisional Director) Allen Johnson (AVID NC/SC State Director), Andy Bryan (LCS Superintendent), Chet Mann (Sanford's mayor), Amy Dalrymple (Chairperson of Lee County Commissioners), Mark Akinosho (Chairperson of LCS Board), our students that were in AVID last year as 8th graders, LCS senior staff, directors, principals, and lead teachers are invited to attend. All these people are coming to celebrate our, students and staff's, hard work to accomplish being in the top 3% of schools in our nation which choose to do what's best for ALL students; teaching them to be prepared and ready for their future using writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading strategies using the AVID system.
The gym will be set up like we do for 8th grade graduation for our celebration on Wednesday morning. Special guests not speaking will be sitting in the folding chairs on the floor. Special guest that are speaking will be sitting up at the front with the podium. Nejla will be sending out information on Monday concerning when and where grade levels need to report to the gym and where to sit. Cheerleaders and AVID students also will be reporting early to different places earlier than other groups. We will need to park like we did for 8th grade graduation, too, to allow places for our guests to park. Officer Scott will be sending out updated parking information Monday. Please ASK if you are confused or do not understand!
Thank you to Staci Thomas for volunteering to represent SanLee on the calendar committee this year! If you know of any parent that would be available after school hours, please let me know.
