Dear Parents / Carers,

I always start to feel that we are really getting into autumn when I start to plan the Harvest Festival worship with our newly elected school council. Our Harvest Worship will be in school on Wednesday 4th October (next week). As usual we are working closely with Selby Foodbank who will be attending the worship and we would be grateful if you could send your child in with an item to donate. This can be tinned foods, pasta, rice, porridge oats or toiletries such as toothpaste and brushes, shower gel or shampoo. All items must be in date or new and brought into school on Wednesday morning as the food bank staff will be taking the donations back with them after assembly. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

It has been a busy week in school starting on Tuesday with the KS2 Cross country event which saw many of our children competing against children from the other Trust schools. Our children were brilliant and we had lots of first, second and third places who will go through to the next rounds. Every child did their very best and should be proud of themselves wherever they placed. Well done Kirk Fenton!

Also on Tuesday, Mrs Cameron and Mrs Westfeld led a phonics workshop for parents of pupils in Reception and a reminder for those in Year 1. If you were unable to attend please contact them for information.

On Thursday, the Selby Times photographer visited Reception to take the new starter photo for the newspaper so keep an eye out for our little ones in the next couple of weeks.

Finally on Friday morning, Year 4 were funded by the Friends of Kirk Fenton to attend the York Food Festival for a cooking workshop. They had a great time and were able to have a go at cooking and tasting a variety of foods. Thank you to the Friends for supporting this and well done to Year 4.

Next Friday 6th October we will be holding a 'YES' Day. This is to raise funds for the Friends of Kirk Fenton. Children will be able to wear whatever they want to school so long as it is safe. They may colour their hair for the day, wear nail varnish or silly socks! The suggested donation is £1 per child. I look forward to seeing how creative they are!

Have a lovely weekend,

Karen Williams

Message from Head Pupils

We’ve had another busy week in school, children from across KS2 went to Riverside school to compete in a cross country tournament. Although not all of us won, we were proud of the children for their behaviour, attitude and brilliant running. Next week, on Wednesday, we are having a harvest festival. Could you please remember to send your child in with food, preferably canned or dry as bread and such will go off . We hope year 4 had a great time at the York food festival and we look forward to hearing how it went. Have a lovely weekend.

Head Pupil Awards went to Tom, Y2 and James, Y6

KS2 Cross Country

On Tuesday, thirty two children from KS2 went to Riverside to compete in this year’s first inter STARMAT tournament - cross country. All the children showed phenomenal perseverance and resilience to push themselves all the way around the long 1.5km course. A special mention must go to Freddie, Eli, Ella, Mika, Oliver and Josh, who all finished in a medal position. It was particularly pleasing to see all the children warmly encouraging others around the course and cheering each other over the finish line. As always all the children let their light shine and they should all be immensely proud for being chosen to represent their school. Well done everyone!
