October 21, 2022
Dear Middlebrook Families,
On Wednesday, October 19th, members of our community volunteered their time to come in and read to our students. The beautifully illustrated books read by our volunteers were donated by the Rotary Club of Trumbull. The Rotary Club is a group if businessmen and women who promote service to others. They value the importance of reading throughout life. The read aloud was their way of encouraging us to expand our reading, writing and communication skills. The theme this school year was, social emotional learning. The stories focused on a variety of social skills, helping to foster social and emotional development for our students. Ask your child who the special guest reader was and let your child share what the story was about.
Specials thanks to:
The Trumbull Rotary Club for the book donations.
The readers who volunteered their time.
Our PTA for the goodies.
Mrs. Balzano for opening up the learning commons to our guest readers.
Some of our Special Guest Readers
Dr. Semmel, Superintendent, read to Grade 1
Nurse Hoggatt shared her reading skills with Kindergarten
School Security Officer Keith enjoyed his time reading
HALLOWEEN DAY REMINDER
Halloween is fast approaching and will soon be celebrated at Middlebrook School. This is a fun time for our students. There is a change this year for our students. On Halloween, Kindergarten, First and Second grade are invited to come to school dressed in costume, while Third, Fourth and Fifth can bring a costume that could be put on in their classroom over their clothes.
Please know that costumes are OPTIONAL. Costumes cannot be violent in nature. Face paint or scary masks such as the βEvil Jesterβ, βItβ, βGrim Reaperβ, βChuckyβ, βScreamβ or any other costumes that contain blood/scars will not be allowed to be worn. No accessories of any kind are allowed.
We will have a school-wide assembly for students and staff where our student council will be discussing the importance of following our PAWS - positive attitude, act responsibly and work with heart, followed by a surprise from our staff. Our Kindergarten and Grade 1 students will parade around the gym before heading back to their classrooms.
Thank you for helping us to keep our students safe.
In celebration of upcoming Veterans Day on November 11th, we will be creating a bulletin board with pictures and a brief description of the honored Veterans. If you would like to recognize a current service member or Veteran, you may send in a picture with the name, location and military branch of service, and the connection to your family. You can find an example with a template by clicking: Veterans Day Sample
If you prefer, you may email a picture, approximately 4 by 6 inches, with the information listed. Please submit by Monday, November 7th. Please email lbalzano@trumbullps.org if you have any questions.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Remember, the conference time is limited so it will be important for you to arrive on time so you and your childβs teacher donβt feel rushed when having this discussion. If you arrive late, your conference time will be shortened because other parents will be waiting to meet with the teacher following your conference.
After the parentβteacher conference, be sure to have ongoing communication with your childβs teacher. This will help you strengthen the parent-teacher partnership, and will be an important part of your child's success in school. When a child sees that parents and teachers are working together, the child will understand that his/her education is a top priority at school and at home. This strong partnership between the home and school will help your child to be successful!
As always, if you have any questions, concerns or some good news to share with us, please feel free to contact us at school, 203-452-4411.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Warm Regards,
Debbie Ponte, Principal
Michele Molloy, Assistant Principal

Hearing and Vision screenings will take place on October 24th, 25th, and 26th for Grades K, 1, 3, 4 and 5. If a recent hearing/vision screening was completed and handed in on a health assessment physical form, the student does not need additional screenings.
Scoliosis Screening will be done on October 25th and 26th for 5th grade girls. Girls can wear a tank top underneath.
Please submit a written note if you would not like your child screened for vision/hearing or scoliosis.
October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. Dyslexia is a general term for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols, but that do not affect general intelligence. (Oxford Dictionary)
Throughout this month, we will be sharing some ways to support individuals with dyslexia.
