Conservancy Kids
We bring the Sonoran Desert to you!
Welcome to Conservancy Kids!
We are so excited to have you with us on this virtual journey of inquiry and place-based learning! Right now we may be social distancing, but we're all connected by the awesomeness of science. We're junior scientists, exploring the natural world, asking questions, and making discoveries. Join us for an adventure that will take you outdoors, around the house, and into the incredible Sonoran Desert. Welcome to Conservancy Kids! We're excited to see you!
Viewer Question--Saguaros
Today's viewer question comes from Sammy in Colorado. If you have questions about the amazing Sonoran Desert, email education@mcdowellsonoran.org!
Listener Question
Luke loves saguaros!
Let's be a scientist!
Saguaros are incredible plants that are uniquely adapted to the Sonoran Desert. By having no leaves, saguaros reduce the amount of water lost to transpiration (the process of water evaporating from a plant, usually through leaves). Their spines not only protect them from hungry animals, but also create self-made shade. Check out this activity to explore saguaro pleats and how they are another amazing adaptation.
