LMS Weekly Reminders
12/05/21
Monday, December 6th is an A-Day
Friday, December 10th is a 2-hour Early Dismissal Day
- Please remember to make appropriate arrangements for your student.
- This is also a great time to check your student's Schoology grades and encourage him/her to submit any missing assignments.
A Trend You Should be Aware of
First of all, I would like to preface this note by stating that we value your communication with the staff of LMS. We certainly value the students' communication. However, once again, I am seeking your assistance as I think the school and home must work together to ensure not just the academic growth of our students but their social and emotional growth as well. This communication relates to the social aspect.
There have been many instances this school year wherein students have taken it upon themselves to email staff members (including administrators) with inappropriate content. Some have even taken to social media. It has also become an almost daily occurrence of me receiving notification from the Safety and Security Department at the Board regarding the inappropriate use of the school system's network and or devices.
Students need to be aware that there are appropriate and inappropriate / respectful and disrespectful means of communication (written, verbal, and or electronic). Content that is inappropriate or disrespectful can lead to disciplinary consequences. This is something that I am hoping could be resolved without resorting to the Code of Conduct. Hence, your assistance on the home front is greatly appreciated.
A Word From the Media Specialist
- We will no longer issue loaner laptops to students who forgot or misplaced their device. Loaner laptops will only be issued to students who have devices being repaired.
- We will also no longer be loaning out chargers. Students must use charging stations or bring their own charger home. If a student losses a charger they can go to the media center where they will be issued another one but there will be a fine of $40.00 added to their Destiny account.
Leonardtown Middle School's Cell Phone Policy
According to St. Mary's County Public Schools' policy, students may have electronics (cell phones, I-Pods, laptops, PSP’s, etc.) in school although they must be turned off during instructional time, as well as during lunch and recess, unless given permission by a teacher for a specific educational purpose.
A phone, specifically for student use, is located in the main office at no charge to the student if an occasion arises that a student needs to contact a parent or guardian.
If electronic devices are brought to school, the school is NOT responsible for investigating their loss and return.
Yearbooks
Parents can utilize online services to purchase yearbooks by visiting: https://ybpay.lifetouch.com and using Access code 14566722. Please contact Mrs. Engel at aaengel@smcps.org for information regarding yearbooks.
Impact Aid Update
There are three ways to return your Impact Aid Survey forms, Return a paper form to school via one of the following ways:
Fax (contact your school for their fax number or visit their website)
Mail (contact your school for their mailing address or visit their website)
E-mail (contact your school for their e-mail address)
St. Mary’s County Public Schools are heavily impacted by federally-connected students, those whose parents/legal guardians work on federal property in Maryland, live on federal property in Maryland, and/or are active duty military personnel. It is important to complete the survey as soon as possible.

Holiday Assistance
Dear LMS Families:
As the holiday season quickly approaches, we would like to aid those families in need. This year, we will be providing families with Wal-Mart and Target gift cards. We are requesting that the minimum amount on each gift card is $10. Below is a form to return to any of the counselors at LMS, via email, to either donate to a family in need or indicate if your family needs assistance this holiday season. All names will be kept confidential. We will accept gift card donations beginning Monday, November 8th through Friday, December 10th, and they can be dropped off in the designated box in the vestibule just outside the main office. Families can pick up the gift cards from the main office on Thursday, December 16th from 8:00-2:00. Any questions or concerns, please call your grade level counselor. Please email the form below or call with the information needed by Monday, December 6th. Please see your child’s grade level counselor’s email and phone extension are below.
