Why I Teach

My third grade teacher, Mrs. Hancock, opened my eyes and heart to the joy of reading. As a young child, I struggled with learning how to read and did not enjoy it. Mrs. Hancock taught me strategies and helped me build my confidence as a reader. She inspired me to not only learn how to read, but to become a lifelong learner. I became a teacher to help children find their joy in learning. One of my joys in life is to teach young children how to read. I love when my students realize that after all the challenges and hard work, they can read! It is truly a magical time.

When I am not teaching, I love being outdoors. You will often find my husband Trevor and I walking along the beach enjoying the ocean air or hiking through a forest. We also like to spend time at home with our snuggly bunny Truman.

Character Trait of the Month

Respect - Respeto

Seeing the good in people and things and treating them with care.

We are also talking about Respect in the context of using good manners, not using inappropriate or offensive language, being courteous to one another, resolving conflicts peacefully, and treating one another as we would want to be treated (and how they want to be treated!).
