The AzMERIT assessment measures Arizona’s students’ performance annually for students in third grade and above. AzMERIT is like an annual checkup – an important opportunity to find out how students are doing. Just as doctors check height and weight, teachers and parents use the test to check how students are performing in reading, writing and math. It also provides information about whether or not your child is prepared for the next grade and eventually for college and career.
We know that many of our students get nervous before their tests. Therefore, at school we have been practicing to help our students feel confident before taking the assessment. Our students will also be provided with snacks and mints to help them during testing. All of our classes that will be taking AzMERIT have been partnered with buddy classes who will help to encourage them on their testing days. We also ask for your support at home as our students begin testing. Here are a few ways you can help:
- Make sure your child gets a good nights rest.
- Eat a healthy breakfast.
- Tell them you believe in them. They have worked so hard this year and the test is about showing what they have learned.
- Get them to school on time and with a positive attitude.
- Do not schedule any appointments during their testing times.

Improving Attendance
What Can You Do?
- Set a regular bed time and morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Don't let your child stay home unless he/she is truly sick.
- If your child seems anxious to go to school, talk to your child's teacher, social worker, or other parents for advice on how to make them feel comfortable and excited about school.
- Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor or another parent from school.
- Schedule medical appointments after 2:30pm.
If you have any questions or concerns about attendance, do not hesitate to call Cristina (623) 974-4827 and discuss it with her. She is extremely knowledgeable and is happy to help discuss attendance and help in anyway.
Parent Involvement (Parent Teacher Organization)
At Discover U we know the importance of having our families on campus and involved in our school. We are hoping to find a few parents who are available to volunteer for the following activities. To volunteer in your son or daughters classroom or regularly on campus you do need a fingerprint clearance card. However, for many of these activities below you do not because it is a one time event. If you are interested in getting a fingerprint clearance card please follow this link: https://fieldprintarizona.com/.
We truly appreciate all of your support as we work together to be the most student-centered school working to nurture, inspire and empower our learners so that they become strong, successful individuals with 21st century skills.
