Open House and Art Show
We held our Open House and Art Show on February 22. We had an Art company , Artome', frame pieces of Art for each student and the parents were able to purchase their child's artwork nicely matted and framed. We had a great turn out with about 350 families in attendance.
NED Show's Kindness Adventure
The NED Show came back to Phillips last week. Their presentation was centered around the Bidii Primary school in Nairobi, Kenya. NED's Kindness Adventure assembly supports initiatives for developing a positive and caring school climate. Its proactive approach aims to prevent many forms of mistreatment, including bullying, by showcasing the sense of satisfaction that takes place when a child chooses to show kindness, respect and acceptance.
Project Based Learning
Several fourth grade classes have been participating in Project Based learning in Social Studies and Science. Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. Below are pictures of students working on projects concerning the Winter Olympics and weather forecasting.
Testing Season
We are about to start our testing season at Phillips. We will have Reading and Math Benchmarks before Spring Break and then we will start our TELPAS Testing for our ELL students after the break. Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System is designed to assess the progress that limited English proficient students make in learning the English language. Students are tested in four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This year all four sections will be administered on the computer.
