Counselor Connection
Generosity
While in the Counselor's Corner, students will investigate the idea that while generosity sometimes involves giving money, it can mean freely sharing everything from encouragement, respect, and compliments, to energy, emotional resources, knowledge, time and attention, too. We will explore these ideas by using popular children's literature to identify characters who are and are not showing generosity. Each class also has an activity where they will think of ways they can show generosity during this holiday season and throughout the year.

7 Way to Reduce Stress this Holiday Season
1. Stress is usually related to worrying about the future or fretting about the past...try to live in the moment during the holiday season (and we should really live every day this way!). Enjoy time with your family and the memories you are making.
2. Make clear decisions about how you want to spend and prioritize your time. You can't do it all!! Don't overbook yourself and add more stress. It's okay to RSVP a polite "no" to parties that you can't make time for.
3. The stress of shopping can drain the fun out of the holiday season. People who focus too much on gifts generally feel less cheer during the holidays than those who spend more time with friends and family. According to Consumer Reports, up to 49 million people get gifts they don't want each year. Think about what your loved ones truly enjoy - perhaps a lunch out together would be better than something they don't need.
4. If money is an issue during the holidays, get creative with you gift giving! Some families do a secret Santa so you only buy for one person, some families do coupons or homemade gifts. You don't have to go in debt to make the holidays special!
5. Play games at family gatherings. games are a good way to connect with each other and engage your mind, body and imagination. Try to be in the moment - encourage your family members to put down the cell phones and enjoy the memories you are making right now.
6. Postpone family feuds. Sometimes getting people together can create arguments. With so many emotions and expectations, the holidays are not the best time to work these out. Set a time to talk after the holidays.
7. Have compassion for others. Sometimes we get so caught up in the gift-giving and getting, the stress and the busyness that we forget what the holiday season is really about. Remember there are always people less fortunate than us , giving back is always wonderful during the year but especially during the holidays!
