The DuJardin Jog-A-Thon is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, September 20th. The morning kindergarten class will participate at 10:30am and the afternoon kindergarten students along with first and second grades will participate at 1:30pm with an all school photo that will take place in the back of the school at 2:15pm followed by the third through fifth graders jogging after the photo. Come out tomorrow to cheer on the students and help raise funds for the DuJardin PTO.
Special thanks to all parents who attended Curriculum Night last Thursday evening, we value and encourage communication between home and school whenever possible. The following is the average percent of parent attendance per classroom for Curriculum Nights over the last 19 years, 2001 = 71%, 2002 = 72%, 2003 = 74%, 2004 = 68%, 2005 = 68%, 2006 = 71%, 2007 = 70%, 2008 = 76%, 2009 = 72%, 2010 = 73%, 2011 = 76%, 2012 = 73%, 2013 = 73%, 2014 = 75%, 2015 = 76%, 2016 = 72%, 2017=69%, 2018 = 72%, 2019 = 78% (a 73% parent attendance rate for the last 19 years).
Thank you to parents that provided or baked items for the PTO bake sale last week. The proceeds from the bake sale, along with other PTO fundraisers throughout the school year, pay for so many things that benefit the students. Among them are such activities as assemblies, teacher “wish list” items, technology upgrades like the video screen in the front lobby of the school, room and board for all the staff who attend the Lorado Taft outdoor education field trip in the winter, and the school's electronic outdoor sign.
During our first school improvement session yesterday afternoon (SIP/Early dismissal days are scheduled for the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 2:00-3:45, except for the month of April) the staff worked on standards based grading and reporting for English and Language Arts (ELA). All classroom teachers will complete a standards based report card for science, social studies, math and work habits, while pilot teachers at each grade level will pilot an ELA report card this year. More information to follow on standards based grading in the future. Teachers are grateful to have time during these scheduled School Improvement/early release days to work on curricular and school related goals.
A Social/Emotional (SEL) screener will be completed by the teachers in October to assess students in grades 1-5 regarding their social and emotional well-being. This screener will be used to create a baseline and identify students who may be in need of some support or assistance. The screener will then be given again in March to measure student growth in this area. Kindergarten teachers will be working on the newly adopted KIDS assessment for kindergarten students.
Parent-Teacher Conference will be here before you know it - November 25 & 26! Sign up today! The sign up window is open thru Wednesday, November 20 on the PTC Wizard. Click into the link for easy access!
