  1. Equity and Social Justice
  2. Improved Instruction
  3. Family and Community Engagement

Dear Parents and Students,

  • Please, visit our district website HERE to stay up-to-date on our Hybrid/In-Person Learning Updates.

  • Report Cards are coming out soon! If you receive an "I" (for Incomplete), you must coordinate with your teacher immediately to receive an extended semester opportunity and complete all required work by March 8. If you receive an "NC" (for No Credit), you must coordinate with your counselor immediately to arrange for Summer School, Online Classes, Alternative School, or repeating the course. Both "I" and "NC" mean you have not earned credit for the course and that you are off-track to graduate and must take action immediately.
  • FPHS has become a proud host for the Pierce County Emergency Management team as a Covid vaccination site. This will occur weekly on Wednesdays from 9am to 5pm. NOTE: Any and all questions about getting vaccinations and registering for vaccinations should be directed to the Pierce County Emergency Management team via their WEBSITE HERE. FPHS is only a host site. We are not organizing or staffing the event.

Assessment Updates:

State Testing

Washington State is currently working with the Biden administration to seek a waiver to "skip" state testing this year. If this does not get approved at the federal level, we will conduct the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) in Math and ELA as well as the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS). If this is the case, state assessments will be administered this Spring. We've also learned that assessments will have fewer questions and prompts than previous non-Covid years. More information to come.

College Board Testing

These exams include PSAT, SAT, and AP exams. In Fall, FPS decided not to offer PSAT or SAT due to Covid restrictions and College Board requirements. Recently, our region has moved to the moderate Covid phase which allows us to bring more students back in a variety of settings. We are reviewing our current safety protocols and testing guidelines to see how we can provide opportunities for students to access these assessments this Spring.

At this time, you can expect that students enrolled in AP courses will be taking the AP exam in Spring. Testing may take place remotely or in person. We are currently in the planning stage and will notify families as soon as our plan is set.

For all College Board exams, preparation materials and resources can be found on their website. https://www.collegeboard.org

Assessment Center!

The Assessment Center is fully functional via Teams for any student who needs to make-up or retake an assessment. A link to the assessment center scheduling page is available on all teachers' Canvas pages and HERE. The link will direct students to the Bookings calendar so that they can schedule a time to take the assessment that works best for them. Students can also select the notification option in the scheduler to receive a reminder via email. We strongly suggest that you do this. Once the student schedules their assessment, they should notify their teacher, so the assessment and test codes are sent to Assessment Center staff.

FPHS Sports

Parents and Athletes,

With the official start of Fall practice the pre-screening and check in process has changed slightly. Pre-screening can now be completed from an athletes phone upon arrival. A link will or QR code will be shared with athletes upon arrival and they can fill out their screening questions from their mobile device. If an athlete does not have access to a mobile device or way to access these forms digitally then a paper copy will be provided for these athletes upon arrival to practice. These will speed up the check in process immensely.

We want to emphasize that this year all of our programs are conducting practices in a closed environment. This means that we will not have any person attending practice outside of the coaches and the registered athlete for that team. We are currently working on guidelines for fan attendance during competitions and will communicate those out as soon as we complete those items.

There is some exciting news for our girls swim athletes! We have secured the Lakewood YMCA for our girls swim team to practice. We are in the process of getting the dates secured and the head coach in place. For anyone interested in participating, practices will not begin until the week of February 22nd.

On Wednesday this week the FP football program began their first official practice and had 41 athletes turn out. Each day more and more athletes are turning out and we expect it to continue to grow!

Next week will be the official start for our remaining fall sports programs. Those include (Volleyball, Cross Country, Girls Soccer, Girls Swim, Boys Golf, Girls Golf, and Cheer/Dance). If you wish to participate, then you will need to register in familyID and be certain you have a current physical submitted to the athletic office. You can turn a copy of your physical into the main office at Franklin Pierce HS or you can scan and upload a copy of the physical into familyID during the registration process. Here is the link to registration if you have not yet registered.

FPSD Daily Screening Protocols

· All coaches, student-athletes and approved school personnel are required to complete an in-person COVID-19 Screening PRIOR to entrance to the training session.

· Screening questions will be asked of each person attending the training session. This allows coaches to interact directly with the student-athlete.

· Any coach or student-athlete answering yes will not be allowed to enter the facility or practice. Contact parent/guardian immediately about next steps and pick-up from practice.

· No parents or spectators will be allowed at Fall Training in-person practices. Only coaches, student-athletes cleared for practice, athletic trainers, and approved school personnel will be permitted. Others are welcome to wait in their vehicle or return after practice for student pick-up.

· Coaches will receive training/instruction on all screening protocol prior to conducting any training session.

Other Requirements

· Cloth masks will be properly worn by student-athletes any time they are not participating in drills. Entering and exiting the facility, moving around the facility, occupying the sideline, etc. To the extent possible masks should be worn during training.

· Everyone will bring their own container of water to drink. Sharing is NOT allowed. Water faucets will not be available to use.

· Gathering size meets TPCHD and State DOH guidelines. This number will depend on multiple criteria such as TPCHD metric status, State DOH Guidelines, WIAA guidelines for each sport, indoor or outdoor training, and capacity of the facility.
