Rocket Family Weekly Update - Week of February 8-12

Weekly Note from Mrs. Clement

February 7, 2021

Dear Rocket Families,

I hope this finds you all doing well and enjoying an event-filled weekend! I am sure many of you watched the Carolina/Duke basketball game Saturday evening (GO Heels!) and are now getting ready for Super Bowl Sunday! We also can't forget Mother Nature's gift of a winter wonderland overnight! While things are nowhere near "normal" it sure is nice to have some excitement, and hopefully some enjoyment!

This past week we celebrated Ms. Robbins as part of National School Counseling Week. We are very grateful to have Ms. Robbins as a part of our Rocket Family and are thankful for the dedication she shows to our students, families, and staff.

This week we celebrate our school bus drivers with Love the Bus Week. School bus drivers are invaluable and I happen to think we have the best drivers around! Please join me in giving a shoutout to our amazing team:

  • Pre-K: Mr. Brown

  • Bus 83: Ms. Godfrey, Ms. Condrey & Ms. Zaffuto

  • Bus 84: Mr. Aiken, Ms. Mullins & Ms. O’Donnell

  • Bus 89: Mr. Melton

  • Bus 97: Mr. Ruppe

They work daily to ensure the safe transportation of our students both to and from school. We thank them for both their dedication to and love of our students.

Our Kids Heart Challenge Classroom Competition is in full swing. As a reminder, this challenge, formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart, is an opportunity to help raise funds for the American Heart Association and our Physical Education program. If 50% of our students register and sign up to take the health challenge, our school will receive $500 in playground or P.E. equipment. You may use this link to get started if you have not already done so.

This week we will continue with our middle-of-the-year (MOY) assessments - specifically, MAP assessments. Students in grades 3-5 will test this week. Students will take assessments in both reading and math.

Below are a few reminders for our face-to-face and remote only students:

Face-to-Face Students:

  • Please ensure on days students do not attend face-to-face that contact is made daily with teachers for attendance. The detailed attendance policy is below for your reference.
  • ALL morning bus riders must have a signed attestation form each day. (Use this link for access to attestation forms.) ALL PM bus riders should have someone waiting on them each afternoon.

REMOTE Learners:

  • K-1 packet pick-ups on Monday, February 8, beginning at 8:00 AM
  • Daily Enrichment Opportunities (Art, Library, P.E. & S.T.E.M.) are available for our REMOTE learners on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Please click on the links below for appropriate grade levels and new times. This week is a BLUE Week.

As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am available by Dojo, email (, or by phone – (828) 287-3778.

Attendance Reminder

Maintaining attendance during Remote Learning is crucial. As a reminder, below is the attendance policy for remote learning:

  • Attendance will be recorded daily in PowerSchool. A student is considered present if he or she completes the daily assignment, either online or offline or has a daily interaction with the appropriate teacher. A student will not be considered absent solely due to an inability to join an online lesson on a remote learning day. You can contact your child's teacher easily through Dojo. Students can also contact their teachers through Canvas.

  • Students are expected to complete assignments missed due to an absence in a time frame determined by the teacher.

  • Excused absence documentation still needs to be provided via email communication (alternative to parent note) or document scans (doctor’s note, educational trip verification, family death obituary, etc.).
