The Scholarly Beat

September 16, 2020

Our Sincere Thanks!

We are off to a very strong start to the 2020-2021 school year because of your support and encouragement. Thank you for sharing your child/children with us. It is an honor to serve your families. Please let myself or Mrs. Hennarichs know if there is anything that we can do to better support your family.

Arrival and dismissal are going much smoother. Thank you for your patience. We have approximately 220 students that are car riders in the afternoon. Our new system allows for students to stay in their classroom to decrease contact with additional students. We start loading about 3:05 and are finishing about 3:25. That is loading about 11 students per minute. As always, we will continue to look for ways to make this process better each and every day.

Also, please see the bottom directly below my message. We have two meetings coming up next week that we need parent participation so we can share about Sonora and get feedback from you. Please consider registering for at least one. I will send out the link only to those who have registered.

Congratulations are in order!

Sonora Elementary has been selected to participate in the STEM+C2 Project!

STEM+C2 is a five-year, $2.5 million project funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Jacob K Javits Gifted and Talented Students program. The Project is based at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and partners with Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP).

The selection process considered several factors including support from the superintendent, the principal, classroom teachers, and the Gifted and Talented specialist. Sonora Elementary was one of only 20 schools in Arkansas to be selected.

More information to come!

(Special thanks to Mrs. Ashley Luper for her vision and work behind the scenes!)
