Message From Principal Goddard
Barron Park Elementary
Dear Barron Park Families,
First, I hope all of you are doing well. Currently, we have only three weeks left to this 2019-2020 school year and the focus and attention will now shift to what 2020-2021 could look like. Last night at the School Board Meeting, our Superintendent proposed three scenarios for the fall:
1. Reopen with no restrictions.
2. Reopen with social distancing regulations along with a blended approach of in person instruction and online learning.
3. Reopen virtually through online instruction.
The first scenario is highly unlikely but the following two options do reflect what all school Districts will need to consider and plan for. Superintendent Austin will continue to work closely with neighboring District leaders, state, and county officials while we prepare for all three scenarios. The health experts will certainly provide the guidance on how best to approach the reopening of school.
This past week, teachers across the District held collaborative meetings with District leadership to plan for next year. Discussions on how to best serve students across the different age ranges under these circumstances was certainly discussed. Very thoughtful dialogue took place as you would expect. In addition, Principals and other Managers are planning to work on smaller task forces to discuss the logistics of each proposed model. This Monday, May 18, our Superintendent will be hosting a webinar at 5:30 pm for parents. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas regarding reopening.
The PAUSD School Budget was another important topic discussed last night. It should not come as a surprise that as a result of COVID-19, the District will have financial challenges. To address budget challenges, cuts in the 4 – 5 million dollar range are being discussed and that most certainly will have an impact on schools. I will share more regarding these impacts in the next few weeks. On a positive note, our PTA Leadership and generous community have done an excellent job with all of their efforts and are well positioned to provide our Barron Park Bees with a high level of support next year. All of us are quite grateful for that.
I know these updates may bring stress and concern but please know we will get through this period of time. Barron Park educators continue to meet weekly and stay connected through thoughtful dialogue and sharing of our distance learning practices, engaging with excellent professional development opportunities, and celebrating many students who are really stepping up and being their best during the closure. All of us at Barron Park hope you enjoyed the video we shared with all of you last week. We look forward to the time we can be together again.
Will be in touch soon,
Eric Goddard
