Dear WHS Families,

We have just under three weeks remaining until our winter break. We have much excitement and merriment planned for this December stretch!

  • 12/5, Tuesday- WHS PTA Meeting, LRC, 7pm.
  • 12/6, Wednesday, Early Release Day, Students dismissed at 1:15 p.m.
  • 12/6, Wednesday, WHS Grade 3-5 Musical at GWMS, Doors open at 6:40 p.m.
  • 12/8, Friday, WHS PTA Movie Night, 6:15- 8:15 p.m
  • 12/11, Monday, WHS Grade K-2 Musical at GWMS, Doors open at 6:40 p.m.
  • 12/20, Holiday Hat/ Ugly Sweater Day (Student Council Spirit Day)
  • 12/20, Wednesday, D44 Elementary Grade 4 and 5 Band and Orchestra Concert, 7pm at GEHS
  • 12/21, WHS PTA Classroom Winter Parties
  • 12/22, Friday, No School, Winter Break Begins

WHS Winter Musicals Information:

Our Musical performances are nearly here!


  • Wednesday, December 6th, Grades 3-5, 7pm at GWMS
  • Monday, December 11th, Grades K-2, 7pm at GWMS


For the first time, we will be having our performances at Glenn Westlake Middle School. (GWMS is located behind Manor Hill School, on Main St. south of Roosevelt Rd. This should allow us more space to safely enjoy the show. Listed below are some important details regarding our musicals:

  • Students are asked to wear dress clothes for their performance

  • All families will enter GWMS at the Main Entrance, Door #1.

  • Doors will open at 6:40 p.m.

  • One adult will be asked to drop off your child, and then pick them up after the show at their assigned classroom.

  • Classroom teachers will supervise students during the time the students are not on stage.

The WHS Giving Tree Remains Open Until 12/15

Thank you to all the WHS families who participate in our season of giving. The WHS Giving tree donations will be collected through Friday 12/15. The gift cards that are collected help make our the holidays shine brighter for our own WHS Families.

D44 Science Fair

Last week our WHS students were treated to a "Super Structures" assembly to get them thinking about the D44 Science Fair. For the first time, there is now an engineering option. Click on the link below to access the D44 Science Fair website. Everything you need to know is there. Packets can be downloaded, or hard copies can be picked up in our office. Registration forms are due by Friday, December 15th.

Winter Weather Considerations

Please take a minute to watch the video below. We need your patience and support to keep our kids safe at arrival and dismissal time. The situation will only get worse as the temperatures decrease and snow starts to fall. Thank you for doing your part to keep our WHS kids safe. We are all in this together.

Winter Weather Procedures

The winter weather season is upon us. Please take a few minutes to review the link below that outlines our WHS Winter Weather Procedures. Highlights include the following:

  • Students will be outside for arrival and recess UNLESS the temperature (including the windchill) is below 10 degrees.
  • Once the snow falls, students must have both snowpants and boots to play in the snow
  • In the event of school closing, you will be notified via an automated phone call, email, and it will be posted on the D44 and WHS websites.

Traveling through the Humanities @ GWMS

February 15, 2018

6:00 PM - 7:30 PM


All District 44 5th grade students and their parents are invited to observe the Humanities classes in action. You will have the opportunity to travel through the GWMS facility at your own pace to familiarize yourself with the layout for your future middle school experience! Current GWMS students will be demonstrating while Humanities teachers share information about their classes (Technology STEM, Photography, Industrial Tech STEAM, World Cultures, Spanish, French, Art, Consumer Science, Culinary Arts, Band, Orchestra). We hope this opportunity will be beneficial regarding the transition from elementary to middle school. Please join us for this exciting experience!

New Student Rewards

For Trimester 2, we have changed out our school-wide "bucket prizes" that students can enter to win. If your child's name get's picked out of these new buckets they will win the following:
Hot Chocolate in the Teacher's' Lounge:

Students who win this prize will have the chance to select 2 friends to join in the fun. Hot chocolate will be served by Mr. Danielski at 2:30 p.m. on Friday afternoons.

Chewing Gum for a Day in the Classroom:

Winners of this prize will earn a special day where chewing gum will be allowed. Sugar Free gum will be provided to the class of the student whose name is drawn.

Lost and Found at WHS? Does Anything Look Familiar?

Please take a moment to review the video below and see if you can identify any clothing that may belong to your family. If you see something that belongs to you, please have your son or daughter stop by lost and found to retrieve it. If you give our office a call or shoot us an email, we will happily deliver the "lost and found" item to your child. Thanks so much!
