Jackson eNews
Hello Jackson Families!
We want to thank all of the Jackson parents and students who came by Cicis Pizza last night to eat and support Jackson's Spirit Night! The pizza is always a crowd pleaser and a portion of the proceeds will come back to Jackson. What a great way to support our school!
Jackson's wonderful secretary, Karen Cestoni, has received several questions recently about student absence reporting. We hope Mr. Riggle's information below will help clarify the difference between absence reporting on the school absence line and the requirements for an excused absence. If you have any questions, please contact Karen at karen.cestoni@pisd.edu.
Plano ISD's Parent Education and Engagement Program (PEEP) would like to offer some in-person workshops at Jackson and would love your input on topics that would be of interest to you. Please take a moment to answer the following questions (links below) to help us provide workshop opportunities that would most benefit our Jackson community. Thank you so much!
Have a great weekend!

Student Absence Reporting
Hello Parents,
If your student is absent, you have 3 days upon return to school to send a parent signed note or an email explaining the reason for the absence for it to be excused. Calling the absence line does not excuse the absence. You must send this note to Karen Cestoni, our school secretary, who will then excuse the absence. Her email address is: karen.cestoni@pisd.edu.
I hope this clarifies absence reporting and the requirements for an excused absence. Thank you for your help in this matter!

Morning Arrival Time Reminder
Hi Parents,
Students that are dropped off at school in the morning need to arrive between 7:00-7:30. Breakfast is available at school and is served from 7:00-7:30.
Students are counted tardy if they are not in their classroom ready to learn by 7:40. This does not mean pulling up to the front at 7:40. Tardies will add up to count as absences if they are excessive and could result in legal consequences.
Please leave early enough to allow for traffic or other delays to be sure your child arrives on time each day. If you are late, you will need to park and walk your child inside.
Thank you for ensuring that your student is ready to get their day off to a great start!

Campus Visitor Guidelines
The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to PISD and Jackson Elementary. We have a number of programs and protocols in place to ensure controlled access to our building. Please take a moment to review the following Campus Visitor Guidelines.
- When a visitor arrives at the front entry doors at Jackson, they must use the intercom to communicate their reason for visiting the school.
- Once a visitor is “buzzed” in to the office vestibule, they should not hold the doors open for visitors approaching behind them. EVERY visitor must use the intercom to state their reason for visiting.
- Once in the office area, visitors must show ID (Driver’s License or Passport) to obtain a printed visitor’s badge. There is no entry into the secured area of the building without a visitor or volunteer badge.
- If a visitor is presenting a driver’s license as identification, it will be scanned in to the Raptor Visitor Management System during their first visit to campus for the current school year. This information is held in Raptor for the remainder of the school year. On subsequent visits, if our Front Desk personnel can access a returning visitor’s driver’s license information in Raptor, they may not be required to present their driver’s license again and a visitor’s badge will be printed.
- If a visitor is presenting a Passport as identification, Passport information must be re-entered in the Raptor System at every subsequent visit in order for a visitor’s badge to be printed.
- If a parent comes to eat lunch with their child and does not have any ID with them (and their driver’s license information is not saved in the Raptor System), they will not be allowed to enter the secured areas of the building to eat lunch with their student that day.
- If a visitor needs to use a courtesy phone or restroom (without obtaining a visitor's badge), they will remain in sight of or accompanied by office personnel at all times.

Counselors' Corner
Jaguar of the Month Program
Jaguar of the Month is a student reward program (grades K-5) that incorporates character traits from the website/program, Character First Education. A new character trait is introduced every month and students will engage in classroom discussions and activities to reinforce the trait. At the end of the month, each teacher will identify a student who consistently demonstrated the targeted trait. These students will be recognized on JagTube, receive a certificate, keychain and a Jackson Jaguar pencil. Grade level group photos will be displayed on the bulletin board near the front office AND Jaguars of the Month will attend a popsicle party with Dr. Roach, our principal!
The character trait for January is Obedience. We will be discussing what obedience means and how students can exhibit the trait during classroom community circles. Keep up the good work, Jaguars!

We appreciate the interest in the WATCH D.O.G.S. program and we hope to see a lot of dads at Jackson this year! For anyone who was not able to attend our WATCH D.O.G.S. night at Jackson, WATCH D.O.G.S. is a program that helps bring dads and other male role models into the school. Dads can volunteer for as little as an hour on their day to help monitor recess, lunches, and outdoor/gym activities.
To get started, fill out a PISD Volunteer Application online. Once approved, use the PTA WATCH D.O.G.S. Calendar link (https://www.jacksonpta.com/volunteer/94352) to select your volunteer time.
