March 2019
A Note From Our Principal
Dear CE Families,
If we can control the weather, March will be the first month with no interruptions in instruction. We’ll begin the month by celebrating our favorite author, Dr. Seuss. Did you know that Dr. Seuss would be 115 this year? While he is no longer with us, his legacy lives in his books that make us smile. Look for weekly updates and at the end of this publication for special Dr. Seuss Celebrations. Next up, the PTO After Class Enrichment Program will begin on March 4th. Program runs for 4 weeks (Mondays 3:30-4:30pm). In advance, we thank all of our volunteers for bringing such creative, enriching opportunities to our students. A special thanks to Deidre Meier and Elisha Lackie as program organizers. Mid-month, we will have 2 half day NOON DISMISSAL's, March 14th and 21st, to conduct parent-teacher conferences. At this conference, teachers will provide academic updates and how your child is projected to meet end of year grade level standards. Standards were shared that the beginning of the year. Link HERE. Remember, a hard copy of the final report card will be sent in June. To end the month, we will host our 3rd Family Fun Night on March 27th, 6-7pm. This evening will be devoted to Literacy. There will books, reading and writing activities, crafts, a photo booth and much more. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for no interruptions.
~ Principal Miller

The Author is Coming!
Coxsackie Elementary Welcomes
Author D. Jude Miller
Click Here to Check Out His Website
Mrs. Sunkes met Daniel at a NYSCATE conference in November. He wowed her with his interesting and colorful books filled with interesting characters and his stories that often center around a New York setting.
Mrs. Sunkes watched him engage with kids by showing them his notebooks filled with starter stories, graphics and illustrations and he later entertained their questions, signed autographs, and asked kids about their love of books, characters and imagination.
On March 13th CE is happy to welcome Daniel to our school for a daylong book seminar where he will share his book-making process in grade level groups throughout the day. In addition, he will participate in an author’s lunch with a selection of invited students.
After his visit, students will have the opportunity to purchase his books. Books will not be pre-ordered as with past authors. Daniel believes it is important for the kids to get to know him and believes with a genuine interest in his stories and his craft the students will crave owning one of his books. If your child orders a book Daniel will be personalizing the books before their order arrives at CE.
We can’t wait for Daniel’s visit. Mark your calendars!
