Principle #1: You're the Driver
Pause, Think, Act (PTA)
September 5, 2016
Dear Leaders,
As we teach our students and staff to embrace Principle #1: You're the Driver, we want to reinforce the opportunity to take responsibility for their actions as well as the opportunity to pause, think, and act to situations that are beyond our control. We have included a PTA (Pause, Think, Act) chart that you can review with students as they confront situations and consider responsible choices.
Please review PTA model with students focusing on the actions that take place in each phase of the model. Then model for students a situation in which you have effectively solved a problem, working your way through the PTA model.
You may use the scenarios provided or have students come up with their own
Remember- You're the Driver is one's ability to take responsibility for their outcomes, decisions, and learning. The goal is that students take personal responsibility and are not blaming or complaining about other people or circumstances for their situations. We are empowering students to take responsible action!
challenges. This is also a good journaling/writing exercise.
With something to think about, this is Niki, your Chief Energy Officer.
Sending positive energy your way for a wonderful week!
Model School September Challenge #1
Dear Teams,
As we reinforce Principle #1 You're the Driver, your challenge is as follows:
Create a commercial (video) featuring students, staff, and/or families that reinforce the first principle, You're the Driver, taking personal responsibility. This commercial (video) should be no longer than 2 minutes and should be posted on Twitter by Friday, September 30th at noon and should include @EnergyBusSchool on post to be considered.
Your school’s “LIKES” will be monitored and counted until Friday, October 7th at noon.
Team “LIKES” on Twitter will turn into points towards your team’s total points earned the entire school year. We will provide you with periodic updates on team points so that you can stay abreast of your school’s total and school placement.
Your video should be informative, engaging, and entertaining enough to earn "LIKES." Make sure your team members, families, and community members are following @EnergyBusSchool!
Your school is working towards a school-wide pizza party in May courtesy of The Energy Bus for School Leadership Journey! Details are forthcoming!
Good luck to you and your school!

Signing up for Energy Bus School Next Year!
Dear Leaders,
We are in the process of outlining our trainings, processes, and resources for the upcoming school year and beyond as you continue your journey as a certified Energy Bus School.
We will provide you with an outline of these goals as well as a new engagement summary which will reflect costs associated with continuing this journey with us.
Because you are our first Energy Bus Schools, we want to make sure we show you how much we appreciate you for being a model and pioneer as we take the first steps towards building positive culture in schools across the nation.
We welcome your feedback/suggestions at any point in the process. Please send feedback to energybusschools@jongordon.com.
