SUBSTITUTE TEACHER SPOTLIGHT - MS. BRENDA HOLT

The substitute spotlight is a monthly recognition program that showcases one of our many great substitutes. The honored substitute is nominated by a staff member within the district and then randomly chosen to be featured in the spotlight each month.

This month we celebrate Brenda Holt, known to her students as BJ. The staff member who nominated Ms. Holt said, “BJ is always adapting to what her class needs. I have had the ability to see her bring classes to the library for whole class checkout or Digital Media and she always has them under control being polite and respectful. I feel she goes above and beyond to maintain behavior management of the class no matter what the age.”

In an interview with human resources, Ms. Holt responded to the following questions:

How long have you subbed for District 41?

5 1/2 Years

What attracted you to become a substitute at Glen Ellyn School District 41?

I have a friend who is a chemist who was also retired. He told me that substituting was one of the most rewarding positions he has ever had. I then applied to the district and the rest is history.

What do you enjoy most about substituting in our district?

Mostly I enjoy the kids, the teachers are outstanding. The lesson plans are often very good.

What or who inspires you?

People that are doing the job that inspires me. Colleen at Hadley gave us a tour of the building on our first day as a substitute. She is truly amazing and on top of what is current in the world. As well as the teacher Mr. King, he provides me support in my substitute career. Amongst numerous others employed here at D41! It is really a good place to work.

What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of substituting?

I have taught Sunday School for the last 30 years. I enjoy cooking and I enjoy playing words with friends.

LINCOLN STUDENTS VISIT BROOKDALE ASSISTED LIVING

Mrs. Everett's 5th grade Lincoln class visited seniors at Brookdale Assisted Living. As part of Project Give Back, the students did a turkey craft, played cards and solved some word games with the residents. Students will return to the senior center throughout the year and will also connect with them as pen pals. Great job, Lincoln students!
