September Updates for BRIJHS

September 1, 2021

Smile!

Welcome to September!

Tomorrow we will have picture day. If you would like to order online, please go to https://inter-state.com/ and use the code 59227CB. If your student is absent or quarantined, there will be retake day on October 18.

On September 10, we will host our annual flu shot clinic at school. This year, all students that are over the age of 3 are eligible. Consent forms were sent home, but if you need a new copy you can find it here: https://5il.co/ybku. We ask that all forms be turned in by Septeber 8.

On Septeber 20 and 21 there will be guests from the organization Growing Strong to coduct the presentations on Erin's Law. This is a mandatory training for students to help prevent sexual abuse. The curriculum is age-appropriate for each grade level. An opt out will come home the week before if you do not want your child to participate.

Student Council is also getting ready to kick off for the year. This is open to all students in Jr. High. The first meeting will be September 8 during Intervention/Study Hall. Students will meet in Mrs. Weedman's classroom. Any student in 7th or 8th grade is welcome to attend.

It has been a great start to the 2021-2022 school year. This is a new format for me to communicate with parents, so any feedback is appreciated.

Big picture

Did you know? BRIJHS co-ops with Deland-Weldon for Softball and Baseball.

Athletic Information:

Girls' Basketball practice began this week. If your daughter is interested in playing, please contact our Athletic Director-Shawna Kollross.

Softball is coming to a close. Their last home game is 9/2 at 4:30. The girls play at Weedman Park in Farmer City. Next week they will start their post season with Regionals in St. Joseph.

Baseball is also winding down for the year. They have two more home games. 9/2 they take on Tri-Valley at 4:30. On 9/13 they take on St. Malachy at 4:30. All baseball games are played at BRIJHS on our baseball field behind the school.

Garden Club

Our newest club for students is Garden Club. This will be headed up by Mrs. Nichols. We'll pull weeds, learn about the differences between annuals and perennials, propagate houseplants, plant flowers at school, and start a school garden.

All students in grades 4-8 are welcome. Please bring a pair of garden gloves to wear and be willing to get a little dirty.

Now Hiring!

You may have noticed an increase in Now Hiring signs when you go to your favorite restaurant or shopping center. Schools are also experiencing a shortage of workers.

  • Bus Drivers
  • Substitute Bus Drivers
  • Bus Aides

After School STEM Club for girls

We are partnering with Girl Scouts of Central Illinois to offer several after school programs. The first one is on Thursdays from 9/23-10/14. Girls in 4-5th grade will combine technology with hands-on activities to build rockets, program ozobots, experience virtual reality goggles and more!

The program will last from 3:15-4:15. It is free and we encourage all girls to sign up. Permission slips went home. If you have any questions, you may also email or call Audra Cottrell at acottrell@girlscouts-gsci.org or 217.725.3700.

In November there will be a Book Club for 4-8th graders and in January a Coding group for 6-8th graders. All programs are free and more information will come out as we get closer to the other program start dates.
