PETA
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
Our Mission & Goals
PETA is the largest nonprofit organization working to end animal cruelty. We hold the fundamental opinion that: "animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment." With more than 6.5 supporters and members, we are able to hold public events and protests to raise awareness for the inhumane treatment of animals occurring every day. In the long term, our goal is to end all forms of animal cruelty for good. Currently, we are working to create stricter laws on animal treatment within the food industry and hope to reach our goal of new legislation passed.
“We would all do well to remember that the food chain is more like a network, and everything within that network deserves respect.” -Shenita Etwaroo
PETA's history
Prior to the founding of PETA, those who wanted to help animals had very little options. Generally speaking, volunteering at animals shelters or donating were the only options. On
March 1980, PETA was founded with likeminded individuals that wanted to change how animals were treated. Since then, PETA has grown steadily and currently has 6.5 million members. PETA has made numerous achievements over the years that have improved the lives of countless animals.Major Achievements
